Toshiba D-RW2SU No Menu shown

Hello,

I bought an old Toshiba D-RW2SU to record with, and the player isn't displaying a menu or showing any display of any kind. It plays a DVD, you can see that the player is reading the disc, but there is no picture.

I tried two different TV's and another set of cables with no luck.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

What cables are you connecting with, the RF or AV.
If AV, Composite or Component video?
Are you aware the recorder only has an Analogue tuner meaning you cannot use it for Freeview reception/recording?

Hello JayCee,

I'm using composite RCA cables to connect the player to the TV. I'm not trying to record broadcast programs, so the machine is not connected to a cable box.

I want to put my family VHS tape content on DVD's. So that's purpose of the recorder.

When the DVD players are normally connected to a TV you get the player's main menu on the screen on start up. I'm getting nothing at all on the screen from this Toshiba.

Thanks

If the previous owner used the Progressive Scan mode then no video will be output from the Composite video port.
You could go through the steps to disable Prog mode “blindly” as detailed on page 143 of the user manual (easily found with a Google search)…or the machine is faulty.

The DVD player was in progressive scan. I found someone that had a TV that had the jacks in the back for the blue, green, and red cables. Went through the menu like you stated, JayCee, and reset the player for regular play. Plays great now.

Thank you every much for taking the time to help me with this.
