    Hi all,
This is my first post, but I have been searching through the archives and posts and am seeking what I hope to be a fairly straightforward answer.

It seems that HD-DVD players, entering their 2nd generation, are a good bet now. The Toshiba A2 looks pretty good to me right now, but I'm not sure if it's the right option for me. The price is about right - going past $450 would be tough for me right now. And I'd like a single player for both SD and HD. Is this my best bet? Or should I go for something else?

I'm located in the US, and am playing entirely R1 discs at this point. I don't see myself using other regions down the road.

    thanks,
    allan

Not sure what sort of equipment you have but for the price that is probably the best bet. To find user reviews of this product in the US and where to buy etc, you should ideally be looking here.

Isn't the US A2 the same as the E1?

And it seems like the major different is the analog 5.1 outs vs just the digital optical, right? Which is an issue if I don't have a receiver/processor that has HDMI (which I don't)?

That's okay - I'll deal with DD for now, and upgrade my receiver "someday."

    thanks again,
    allan

if analogue 5.1 (or tru HD) not important then A2 or 360 add on. if it is then HD-A1 or HD-AX2.

...or the XA1. Still available @ VE for $499 closeout. Since kaiyen is in the US, (s)he'll get no sales tax & $15 shipping...

I've played with the A2 at my local BB, and the load time is about half of my own XA1 - very nice improvement. Tough choice on which one I'd recommend... The XA1 has the benefit of 5.1 outputs, both optical AND coaxial digital outputs, and built like a tank...

Has anyone bought from Value Electronics using the parcel2go service?
