Leading Edge Concepts are selling this for £700. Is this a good buy for the money or would i be better spending £800 on the Arcam DV88. I will be using it of rMusic playabck as well, hopefully paired with a Denon AVC-11SR.

    Thanks in advance.

The Toshiba is an excellent player and a bit of a bargain at 700 quid.

All the mags rate it highly as well. HCC gave it Reference status.

The Arcam will have the edge for music playback though but doesnt have Prog scan or DVD Audio playback.

If I wasnt waiting for the new Denon DVD A1 I´d have bought one.

Bear in mind its due to be replaced by a new model within the next few months.

I don't agree with the statement that the DV88 will have the edge for music playback , I used to own the DV88 and now own the SD900E and the SD900E is definitely better in that respect. Plus it has DVD Audio (albeit without bass management but the addition of something like the Outlaw Audio ICBM sorts that out).

Well, current DVD Audio players output DVD audio through 6 analog phono connections and you connect those to the EXT-IN connections on your amp. Most if not all amps bypass the bass management when the 5.1 external input is selected (the bass management takes place in the digital domain so it works on e.g. DD or DTS bitstreams but not on an analog signal). What this means is that the full range of frequencies are sent to all speakers and if your speakers can't reproduce them you lose the bass information. What the ICBM does is perform bass management on the analog input from the DVD player and you can select the crossover frequency for each channel to suit your speakers. See www.outlawaudio.com and check out the info about the ICBM for more info...

    Cheers
    Andy

I think we´re looking at 2 grand plus (at least!!) bearing in mind the USA price is 3000 dollars plus, which has a nasty habit of translating to the same figure in pounds.:(

Hopefully, it will be around 2 grand, but thats wishfull thinking on my part.:)
