Toshiba 42XV553DB High Pitched Noise On Standby!

[-]Hello :)

Could anyone with a 42XV553DB or similar XV series LCD TV if their set has a continuous high-pitched squeal coming from the back of the unit on standby only, or is mine just knackered?

I brought it about 4 months ago and it's been doing this ever since new. I believe it could be the feed-back transformer but could also be anything else. I can only describe the noise as a continuous quiet high pitched wine that can only be heard when the room is silent, however, when you're trying to sleep in the room with it you can here it and does drive you a bit nuts after a few months LOL. As soon as you ask the TV to turn on it stops before the panel has lit up or sound kicks in, same goes when turnin off, the noise isn't present until the panel has fully turned off and TV "clicks" into total off mode (I.E. standby)

I can't be bothered to get it replaced/repaired if it's just a Toshiba thing. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Also, what is the green L.E.D. next to the red standby L.E.D. for? It randomly comes on with the red standby light for short intervals and then goes off again. When it's on the TV "clicks" as if it's doing something, when it goes off, five minutes after it's come on the TV clicks again. While the green L.E.D. is on, I think the high-pitched squeal stops. As if it's not in standby during this period.

Hi mate mine does exactally the same thing i was just scanning google to see what the problem could be and you and me have the exact problem.

Maybes it's a thing that these Tosh's do not sure...Can only hear this noise when the T.V is actaully in stand by and it's high for a few second's then drop's down to practally nothing.

Also i was wondering why the hell the tv was doing that!

I was sat in my living room and i seen the light next to the standby button go green i was thinking *** is it doing i actually thought they was a fault but also seem's we have the same quirky little thing's that are happening.

Doubt it's just a coicedence.

You semi put my mind at ease still have some warranty on my t.v so all is good.

Yeh, I exhausted Google as well. It's fantastic the way Google links text inside threads on forums! That's where it's worlds apart from any other search engine! Hopefully it will bring a few people here.

I thought I would try my luck with this and within a couple of weeks you've signed up to post you're thoughts, wonder how many times it's been read.

With yours being in your lounge, you're lucky LOL, I have to sleep with mine. Im not sure if it does drop down in volume but now you mention it, it is possible. I would assume it's only young people that can hear it, you know how when a CRT telly was on, but the screen was blank you could still tell it was on if it was quiet as there was a high-pitched squeal in the room, I think mine could best be described as that volume, very quiet but still clearly noticable.

Glad because I have a *****d up telly it's give you some comfort too LOL, a trouble shared is a trouble halved and all that :D
