I was going for a Samsung 40" but when I thought about it not having built-in Freeview I decided not to bother. I'm a big fan of Freeview so it would be daft to get a 'new' TV and not have DVB.

No great detail on the machine yet (Toshiba's website).

Other reason I went with the Tosh was 3xSCARTs (loads of other sets have 2xSCARTS = crazy) and 2 xHDMI). I also decided to go for the Tosh as I have had a Toshiba 37" CRT for 6 years and it's been a great TV. Unfortunately, I don't have the space for a wardrobe in my TV room anymore :D

My only concern is whether it has a stand or not (some sites say table top or floor). Would be nice to have a floorstand until I decide if I'm going for a wall bracket or not. Where have people been buying 200x2000mm VESA brackets from? is there big differences in quality/spec?

If anyone have any comments on the Tosh or has more info please post your thoughts.

Could a mod please change the title of this thread to 42" please -as the 40" may mix folk up.

This is the TV i'am waiting for, its got all the right connections and is the right size.

Just waiting to view PQ but if its anything like the 56 model it should be one of the best.
Had a look at a dvd on that and the sony V series, just looked at lot better with dark scenes.

This is the last one i want to look at, Fingers Crossed :)

Dug up a little bit more info from here

For those interested in the 42" I've made it a one A4 sheet info for printing here

That'll give me something to look at for the next few weeks until this is released.

My understanding is that 37" and 42" come with a cabinet/ floor stand as part of a launch promotion. At least thats what I was told and I expect to get when my 37wlt58 is delivered!

Leconcepts are apparently getting these in next week. The floor stand is included as part of the promotion. It certainly looks impressive, then again, so does the Sony V40.

If the PQ comes up trumps then this could be the display for me. :)

I look forward to reading some reviews and hopefully viewing the display for myself.

Where is the cheapest place to get one of these? (pref with interest free credit for 6-12 mnths)

Cheapest I've found so far is £2100 inc vat\del from cheapelectricals.co.uk - no interest free credit though :(

    Any other recommendations?

They phoned 60mins ago to confirm my info and said the TV was very very popular and that they had 15 arriving next week and that 3 were left.

Eh, when I say 'cheapest' I also mean best plus I had to take into consideration the fact there was nobody else apart from 2 other retailers (that I could find) that actually looked liked they were getting the model in.

The 56 series was reported in threads as having difficulties achieving 1:1 pixel mapping over VGA (even with powerstrip 1024x768 spec.). PC DVI to HDMI gave overscanning issues (apparately).

Without a PC specific DVI input and separate digital video HDMI input such as on the LG's, there could be a few unhappy campers when you plug your PC's in.

I am hoping that the digital 1:1 mapping works with the 58 series as I am very interested in the 32", but I will have to wait for a conclusive mag review or posting before I shell out my cash.

Am I right in understanding that the contrast ratio on this model is quite low, as is the contrast ratio on the 37WLT58, compared to other current LCD models?

In particular the new 37" JVC, the LG37LP1D and the Samsung 40" LE40M61B.

If this is so does this mean that the picture quality will be better on the 3 models on my shortlist than it will be on the new Toshibas?

    Thank you.

    My deal:

£2089 Nationwide Visa [not debit] (who give a 2nd year free warranty -that's a full warranty that replicates the manufacturer's)

£2089 balance transfer from Nationwide Visa to Egg Visa for 5 months' interest free.

Ah, the wonders of a capitalist society!

    £2250 delivered.

That's a good deal from LEConcepts since they have a 3 year warranty and a free HDMI cable. Price Promise too!

If my present supplier falls by the wayside I'll consider LEC.

I see the Toshiba has disappeared from Empire Direct's website The item's still in their search list but there's no content page.

    Anyone else go for ED?

I just phoned them up and asked for a refund as they have no idea when they're getting 'stock'. I've left the order in place and they've said they'll phone when they get stock.

    Hmmm. We'll see.
