Hi guys,

I've been browsing for a while, as I am about to buy a new LCD. I have narrowed it down to either the 37WLT68 or the LC37XD1E. Does anyone have any words of wisdom on either models?

Thanks

I don't know much about the Toshiba, but I do own the Sharp.
And I can tell you a few things.

Best blacks and SD image I've seen from a flat screen.
Very good picture clarity, decent colours, and great contrast.

Overall the image quality is a lot better then my old Sony Bravia (32S2030).

Negatives are that it has pretty bad viewing angles, and does not do 1080p via VGA or component (does 720p and 1080i though). Only does 1080p via HDMI or DVI-HDMI.

Still, all in all it's the best flat screen I've owned and seen for the time being.
Check my thread on it.

Just to let you know, the gradient issues I solved. And my LCD did not have banding in the end.

Cheers

I'm leaning towards the Sharp at the moment, it's tricky to make a final decision.

The Sharp is a fantastic set, better than the Tosh IMO (though I have only seen the tosh in a store!)

I am looking at exactly the same sets,

Does anyone know where you can find the Sharp in the high street? I've looked at the usual places and I can only seam to find the 42".

My issue is now, I sure the 42" Sharp next to a Tosh 42" WLT66, but the Tosh did look better only thing is the sourse was 1080i via component! And I know, I know, different mobels can differ from size to size.

Has anyone more input with regards to these two?

Before I bought my Toshiba 42wlt68 the Sharp LC42XD1E was on my list as well as the Sony w series and 42wlt66. The reason being that I though a 1080 screen was the way to go. What I found comparing various sets was that whilst 720 sets make a good job of showing 1080 material the reverse is not true. Also beyond 5 feet you just can't see the extra detail on a 1080 screen, motion handling also suffers.
My 42wlt68 cost me more than buying a XD1E but for me it was the right choice I found its performance better in a number of areas.

Damn!

Thanks for the links but I still cant decide. How pleased I was to see this title thread as its exactly the two I am trying to decide on.

They are both so closely priced, surely 1080p Sharp is the one to go for? Horses for courses I suppose. I think whats eating me is paying for the tosh at a similar price but not getting 1080p. Someone pick for me

bear in mind that the Sharp can't connect the Xbox360 AND Wii together if u want to use both in best quality (component for these devices)

This is a big problem for me with the sharp
