how does it compare on paper to the '58'? I want to save money (and have a bigger screen than my 30"), but don't want to regret missing out on some key specs.

Cool. Although 2xHDMI + component would be perfect for SkyHD + PS3 + Xbox 360. Is the HDMI on the 56 HDCP compatible? (manuals for both 56 and 58 don't say)

Is it simple to get component through VGA? do I need a signal converter or anything, or is it just a simple cable like DVI-VGA?

Are the other specs - contrast etc about the same?

Every HDMI input is HDCP mate......its just DVI you have to watch out for.
It is very simple to get Component through the VGA input.....all you need is a Component-15pin Dsub cable

Just spoke to my local Martin Dawes and the 37" is £1699 but they will throw in a DVD and Freeview box for £100. Don't know what they are.

 looks like the store made an error, it should have been £2100 for the lot, but we paid £1150, they said that they would honor the sale.
