Hi.

I have had my toshiba 36zp48 inch for a couple of weeks now and everything seemed fine.

Just today i was sitting infront of it and thought, ok its a 36 inch television but somehow it doesnt seem THAT BIG.

So i decided to get the manual out and read that the visible screen size should measure 86 cms. Next move was to get my measuring tape out, and the measurement of the visible screen (left-right) is excatly 76 cms!,which is the same visible screen size for the 32 inch tosh.

I checked the back of the tv and the model number says 36zp48

Please could someone put me out of my confusion before i kill the salesman!

thanks

You're going to kick yourself .....

TV (and PC monitor) sizes always refer to the diagonal measurements !

My 32-inch TV measures 76 cms diagonally across the screen.
It is somewhat shorter across its width : 67 cms

Wow, I think you really need to have a chat with the salesman.

:D

cheers chris.

feel like a bit of a plonker now.
just measured the set diagonally and its 86 inches. WHAT A RELIEF!

With all display types the measurement is taken diagonally from bottom left to top right (or top left to bottom right!) and in the case of CRT it is the entire front surface of the glass, not just the visual part of the screen. So a 36" CRT gives about 34" or so of visual picture. On PJ's it is the entire front visual surface that is measured and I believe LCD's and Plasmas are measured this way as well.
