New to the board (and thanks all, what a great board - some really valuable threads) - but hopefully this won't sound like a dumb question.

I have the Toshiba. £1,800 3 years ago. Nice telly, don't care its the size of a house at the rear - it sits in a corner anyway.

Wife saw a HD TV in action and says we should have one - been to the local independant Panasonic dealer and saw the 42" and 50" PV500. We want a bigger screen if we're changing.

A number of threads suggest as HD is not yet here, picture on regular viewing {SD (?) } is perhaps not the best around -

My question is - will the PV500 be materially better than my CRT Tosh whilst I wait for HD from Sky etc next year?

Thanks and apologies in advance if this is a stupid question. I have searched the forum and can't find a direct comparison (nothing more annoying than newbies going over old ground). :D

i have the same TV  mine now lives in my bedroom
    i don't have pv500 but i do have the pa50 .
i did have a lg plasma before the pa50 but its picture quality was not that great .
on the other hand the pa50 is just as good if not even better because it has near perfect geometry ,unlike the crt TV .
the only reason i got the pa50 compared to the pv500 was the price :smashin: i got the pa50 for a fantastic price   .
so is it better than the CRT , a big yes from me on that one :smashin:

i have a 28zd26, similar TV and, having one that size, i would wait till HD is mainstream, when you can either pick up a pv500 for chips (!), or get the latest thing out then. On the other hand, the TV may not be worth much when HD is mainstream, so it may be worth getting out now.

I went form a Panny 32" Tau 100hz to the PV500, picture is much better.

I don't think you will reget it.

Personally...I would wait. I think the PV500 is great,
but surely if you are happy with your TV now
(and it is only 3 yrs old), wouldn't it be best to
wait till HD was more of a reality? You could
then justify a whole new system - HD DVD,
Sky HD, Freeview HD (when will this arrive???!!) etc
    Even if you did
chose the PV500, it is a bit frustrating selecting the HD
connection (several remote presses!) and there is only one
HD input (although obviously you can use add-on selectors).
