Sorry to spark off what seens to be a long debate on the Toshiba front, but....

I have only just received my Toshiba TV this week, and the only aberation I can find with this set is that of a slight mis-alignment of the TV picture.

This is very apparent when viewing pictures that display banners at the bottom of the screen i.e. News programs or ITV Digital/Sky Digital info banners.

On my set everything appears to be ok apart from the picture at the bottom right hand side of the Tube... This runs UP from the left to the right, or if you look at it the other way... it is lower at the L/H/S of the tube

Can this be adjusted via the Service/Design Menu and if so what values would you need to adjust to alter this...

Or would it be worth calling out a Tosh Engineer to tweak it? If so what is the number that I should ring in the UK?

Any links to Websites that could provide me with help on this would be a bonus too!

    Thanks in advance,

    ~MM~

Horizontal tilt can only be fixed in the hardware. Vertical tilt can be fixed in the service menu.

You should call out an engineer to adjust the horizontal tilt so it is correct as this requires opening the box. Once he has done this, it will put the vertical tilt out a little and this can be corrected in the "s" service menu.

Is the top of the screen tilted as well? By opening up the box, the engineer can only tilt the whole screen, so if the top isn't tilted at the moment, then it will be after the adjustment.

Mine was originally out by 1cm at the bottom, and a bit at the top. The top is new straight, but the bottom is still tilted (about 0.5cm). From what I understand, you'd have to make a choice as to whether you'd rather the top or bottom to be level - and it's better to have the top level.

I contacted the store that I purchased the TV from (John Lewis), and they arranged for the engineer to come out.

    Nigel.

    Thanks for that balders.

The top is Level but the bottom is out by 6-8mm (7.5 typically) This is only noticeable when there are grafix with straight lines on screen... normally TV Guide on Sky Digital, or news broadcasts with on screen grafix.

Other than that the picture fills the screen at all times (only then noticeable with the black bars top and bottom)

Apart from that I am really pleased with this little (massive) beauties performance... Quite a step up from my 21" Hitachi

Your first point of contact should be your warrenty provider (usually shown on the reciept).

Better to try and get the bottom straight as that is where banners and text are often displayed. Mine is straight at the bottom, top is slightly curved down to the centre and then almost back up completely at other side with similar slight curves to sides, but well within the 5mm limit which is deemed acceptable by the factory.

I guess its nearly impossible to get it perfect, ie on my computer monitor which is much smaller than these tv's everything is adjustable through a menu, but if you get one side right the other goes out a bit.

Right... I've been in touch with Tosh and my retailer and a service engineer is coming out on Saturday afternoon. Toshiba admitted that the amount that the display was out wasn't acceptable and that it sould be rectified.

So I'll keep you's posted, and I'll try to find out the settings that are adjusted... I might even pinch his manual and photocopy it

Odds are the service repairman won't know the service menu in detail and won't even be aware of the designer menu.
