Have been on the look out for a new 32inch TV for the past few weeks. I really wanted one with component inputs, which left only one choice The Tosh picture frame. But due to all the horror stories and the cost of it I wasnt going down that path.

But then comes alone the Toshiba 32ZD26P. Component inputs + Progressive scan! Well news on thi sbeauty is very thin on the ground and none of the big stores seem to have them. Until today:D

Went into my local powerhouse and there was this beauty. Not to sure about the stand dont love it but dont hate it either.

Well asked the chap to hook up a dvd player with component outputs for me, but they didnt have any models with "RBG" so I had to make do with an alba and a £1 scart lead. Well the chap put on SWTPM on for me a told me how good the picture was-which it wasnt so asked him for the remote.

5 mins pass and he says he hasnt got it but has another tosh remote which should work, and fair dues it did. Well after changing the contrast and brightness, put it into Wide instead of super wide the picture was looking great nice colours and superb geometry. Then came the different scan modes

    Natural - ok
    100Hz - very bad I hate 100Hz I see much more flicker with 100hz:(

and the proressive - WOW:eek:  the picture just jumped out of the screen so sharp it really doubled the resolution of the natural scan, and this was with a £100 DVD player, cant wait to see what it will look like with my sony 725 using component:D

Well @ £1299 im sold just got to see if it can be had for less online oh and it has to pass the wife test

Hummmmm what shall I buy her :D

I've just had a look on the Powerhouse website and the only Tosh listed that compares with yours is the 32ZD26 @ £1299.Do you have the correct screen size ??

Yeah this set is superb. It's capable of 'true' progressive scan too. I know this 'cause I took my US Gamecube into powerhouse and fed the set a 480p signal thru the component leads. Looked the mutt's nuts and in widescreen too (some GC games only have a 16:9 mode via prog scan mode)!!!

try and find it anywhere else but powerhouse, they won't refund unless faulty and thats only within 28 days, and then they will mess you about for those 28 days.
and as for customer services, surly is a polite version.

I ordered my 32zd26p last week from Techtronics for £1050 (including delivery, vat, and a buy now pay in 6 months time contract) , and before you say anything about Techtronics i've dealt with them before and they've been a great help.
In the link above (italia toshiba) it says something about teletext 123 or 128 is this page memory size or something else?

Oblivion...... I think Techtronics are going to post the contract to me first then send the TV when I return the signed contract. Should be 1 week as they had 3 in stock when i made the order.

    Hi

it'd be great if somone could check whether the new Toshibas support true PAL Progressive Scan via the component inputs - I was told by a Toshiba representative that they only do NTSC Progressive Scan via the inputs but perhaps he's wrong.

The Progressive Scan option for PAL may not actually accept PAL Progressive signals but rather work like a line doubler/buffer. That wouldn't be bad either if the quality of it was good (the ISCAN Pro provides this functionality - if Toshiba used the same or a similar chip with film mode support the results should be quite good).

    Regards
    Carsten.

The 36ZD26P sounds like the ultimate 36" but why can I find nothing about it on Toshiba's own website?

The links above are the only official toshiba info i could find :(

If you think 36ZD26P is the ultimate just wait until Toshiba 36ZT29B Strata Home Cinema TV same as the 36ZD26P but with built in DD/DTS sound and Free-to-view terrestrial:eek: But you will be looking at £2000+ me thinks for that.

On another note - took the other half to look at it today and she aproves:D :D all I need now is my new credit card to come and its mine.

I'm a little confused by this  - how could you have tested the TV's progressive scan capabilities without a DVD player that outputs progressive scan through its component outputs?

In the TV options you can choose from natural scan / 100hz / progresive and one more i think.

With the progressive scan option it looked amazing:D So much better than 100hz and better than my current sony tosh combination. So I imagine that with a DVD player which outputs a progressive singnal it will look even better.

as a sie note some sites state that the TV is capable of Pal Prog Scan while other state NTSC Prog Scan (525p) Pal Prog Scan doesnt bother me cause all my DVDs are R1 but its something to think about.

So presumably the Tosh has an internal de-interlacer to show all sources in interlaced form in non-interaced (progressive scan) form. This means PAL progressive internally (?).

However, can it also take progressive scan sources directly (i.e. via a component cable from a DVD player with prog scan capability)? And can it take both PAL and NTSC external prog scan sources?

Did you notice any 50Hz flicker when using internal prog scan?

PS: The other scan option is Active - apparently better for things like sport (but if you've got prog scan why do you need this extra mode - I guess to remove the 50Hz flicker).

PPS: Maybe Tosh have added prog scan so that the 50Hz flicker covers up the other flicker their TVs seem t have!!:D

No :) As I said the picture looked amazing there seemed to be more flicker in the 100hz scan than in the natural scan. But with the progressive option turned on everything suddenly went so sharp.
