Folks,
Does everyone with this set have a problem with it?
I ordered one before reading this newsgroup (smart huh) from JL and now I'm a bit apprehensive that it'll have a problem specifically:

    Dark vertical bands
Contrast bloom
Transformer hum
Geometry problems

I'm not too bothered about the stuff that can be fixed ie geometry but the dark bands are a big concern.

I only have the picture washing out on brightly lit sets and sunlit scenes. Particularily bad on analogue and only slight on digital, new set coming next wek. None of the other problems at all, just hope the replacement is ok.

I was a bit concerned too when I came across this forum and all the posts with problems. Fortunately for me though, my 32ZP18P has had none at all, and I'm really pleased with it.

    John,
Can I ask when you got your TV. I wonder if there's a bad batch out there.
Ken can you let us know what your next TV is like?
I've got to pick mine up next week and apparantly it was the last one in the warehouse so I'm hoping it's not the last of a bad bunch.

I got mine about a month ago and it is not suffering any of the problems mentioned elsewhere. I do have the dynamic contrast turned off (via pic setting 3) which i would recommend to everbody with this set or the 36" version.

Dave, I got mine last monday (6 days ago ). It took me to about thursday to connect it the way I wanted (mainly because I couldn't be bothered tacking cabling around the room for the rear speakers).

i was gonna go for this set because of its fantastic looks and DD sound etc. however, much as i tried i couldnt get a decent picture. The picture looked processed and grainy (mainly broadcast pictures). My 12 year old sony has better pictures!
In the end I opted for the sony FQ75...a picture with which ive yet to find a fault.

Replacement tv came today, and installed whilst I was at work. (Got all the speakers in the wrong places and couldn't set up the digital soungd input!)
Anyway, now perfectly watchable on tuner, although still slightly overbright on whites and sunlit areas. Grass is now green though!! Certainly as good as the video tuner, which I was having to use before to get any sort of picture from ITV.
Superb picture on sky, vibrant colour, my old set must have been way out on sky as well because it never looked this good. I cant see any geometry errors, top, bottom and sides all appear straight from normal viewing distance.
Funnnily the teletext also seems to be working faster as well, so that must also have been faulty on the store of pages.

Pleased to hear that your replacement set is OK.
I guess you will have to adjust your picture settings now from the settings you had on your washed out set.
Paul

Just got my 32zp18p and it's fantastic out of the box. I can see a small amount of bloom on very white object like sun shining on a white shirt against a darkish background but I think I've been looking for faults.
The geometry, colours and sound are all excellent.

Thanks to all for your advice.

Does the blooming occur with Dynamic contrast on and off or just when it's on?

I have found that the blooming does not occur when it's off.

Not sure DD, I'm still playing with my new toy. I'll post when I've tested a bit more.

Have just received my 32" set and have what I consider 2 problems. One is to do with purity in thatI get a blue tint on the lhs and other paches elsewhere. Using Video Essentials it looks really messy on the white and red screens.

Second problems is that the picture via the aerial looks very grainy. This set as a replacement for a Panny pg30 which had the shaddowy problems. However, the picture looked great via the aerial. Now if I freeze the picture you can see it very grainy.

Are these the same problems that other people have seen? If so what is the fix?

    Thanks
Steve

Cant help with the tint, but if you select the menu for picture adjustment, then wait for a suitable picture that shows the problem you are having, you can use the freeze button to hold that picture whilst you try the adjustments. I set the sharpness to -45 and most of the grainyness disapears.
If you have variable tints even from a good source, it could be caused by speakers too close, or you may have a duff set, which needs adjusting or replacing. I am on my third set, and I think it is finalyy a good one.
If anyone finds out how to alter the too bright whites though can they let us know please, as I still have it slightly through the analogue tuner principally.
