I am looking for a 32 inch LCD tv for under 1 K - i have read most of the threads (mostly :lease: excellent) about this and a bit of a novice so its like quicksand, the more i struggle the deeper i go under and more confused.
I think ive decided on the Toshiba 32WL56 but am just concerned (if thats the right word) about it not having progressive scan and component video inputs- i will just be hooking a dvd player/recorder (yet to buy one) and a Sky box to it. i wont be using it for PC games.

Is component video the best connection for quality (i told you i was a novice?)

Any final advice before i take the plunge in the next few days ?

    Thanks

most people seem to be plumping for the Samsung...it is a very good TV, I just forked out on the 26" model without the Freeview.. As for the connections, I'm not the one to help unfortunately. BTW, the Samsung with the BDX ending means that it includes Freeview, as you have Sky there will be no need for this so if you look for the Plain old "D" ending you will find it a bit cheaper.

Use something like www.pricerunner.co.uk to do a direct comparison of the two you like.

Thanks for the quick best to worse list of connections - so does that mean a lack of component on the Toshiba wl56 is a serious drawback - ie. Will it be noticeable in terms of quality of picture ?

The 56 range are able to take component. You need to buy a yuv to vga lead http://www.beststuff.co.uk/specialist_rgb_leads.htm ixos make a yuv to vga it is available through the toshiba site.
I have the 27WL56 it is very good, but it does buzz which is audible if you put it on mute. There is quite a difference between yuv progressive and scart-rgb.

How do you find not having an adjustable backlight control affects your viewing?
As a result, are you able to obtain a restful picture in more subdued night time lighting without the picture being possibly too bright and overpowering?

I was all ready to go for teh Samsung this weekend and then i read the thread rasied today about the picture quality being very very poor for this LCD - no i am confused - At the moment ive got a DM TECH (cheapish with an inbuilt dvdv player) that the kids and the pciture quality seems okay to me - unless you stand with your nose against the screen.
