While I was Watching a film on my Toshiba 210E, the sound just disappeared. When I turned the sound on my TV to maximum, I could just hear the film very faintly. I have checked all leads and they seem to be fine. I've also tried other DVD's.

Has anybody out there any idea what the problem could be, and the solution if possible.

    Thanks.

How is your TV connected to the DVD player? I assume you are not using a separate amplifier or separate audio cables to connect to the TV?

It is connected to the TV using a scart lead.

OK. Have you tried using a different SCART cable? If the picture is fine perhaps one of the audio connectors in the SCART has come loose. Or else the DVD player has just got faulty. Is it old? I have a Toshiba SD-220 that sound kept cutting out on to my amp. I found the reason to be that the coaxial digital cable connector on the back of the DVD player was dodgy, so I have to keep the cable angled slightly upwards for it to work!

I have tried other scart leads, with the same result. I have had the player for about 15 months (as usual just out of guarantee).

Since it happened in the middle of a film it has to be something just gone faulty at some stage - either DVD player, or TV. Perhaps try the player on a different TV. If sound works, then your TV's got a faulty SCART connector. If not, it's the DVD player. Good excuse to buy a new one I suppose!

I used to have an sd210 and had exactly the same problem - I was watching a DVD and the sound "popped" and just dissappeared, unfortunately its a fault that the 210e's are prone to. Mine was repaired under warranty - I don't think it was a particularly difficult fault to repair as it came back very quickly. Sorry I can't help with the technicalities.

Same thing happened to my 210 a couple of months back - 2 weeks before the warranty expired. The guy in the shop said he's seen about a dozen or so with the same problem.

Thanks for the input. I am having it looked at in the next few days.
