I borrowed a friends toshiba 220 to compare against my aging 2109, havn't got very far yet but in terms of picture quality I can't tell the differance, only tried one dvd so far so the testing continues but I did expect to see a clear improvement with the newer model.

I was interested to see how things have changed with the newer models.

    Will post again later.

I'd be really interested in your findings. I've been thinking of upgrading my old 2109 for some time now but don't see the point if I'm not gonna see any improvement. Let me know how you get on.

will do, another snipit that may interest you, I have also tried a sony NS300 (slightly older model) and found the picture to be slightly better that my 2109, it also had a much slicker operating system, and appeared to have a better sound but not in stereo which was too bright sounding.

My 2109 still works fine, unless needing Pal-Progressive Scan for a large plasma or a projector, DVD-A or SACD, then while it's working I wouldn't bother changing it. :)
