Hi folks - this is my first post and would just like to say that this is a great forum where I have learnt a great deal!.

My query is this - I was about to purchase a Toshiba V711 video recorder but have become aware of a new model named the V752. Unfortunately I am unable to locate much info on the new 752 and was wondering if anyone had heard of it and knew what the spec was. Also how do people rate the 711 if anyone has experience of it.

    Thanks in advance

    Andy

I contacted Toshiba about the new V752. Here is the reply.

Thank you for your recent enquiry. Please find the information that you
    requested as follows:

The V711 is being superceded by the V752. This model is expected to be on
general release in march (or the very end of february) As yet we have no
specifications on it, We know only that it is similar to the V711uk and we
expect that there will be more compatibility in the Set top box control
function. If you contact us at the end of this month we should have some
more information about this model for you.

If you have any further queries or would like to go through your query with
an advisor you can contact us on 0115 9766958,
Monday - Friday 9.00-18.00 and Saturday 9.00-17.00, or feel free to reply
    by E-mail.

We trust that the information is to your satisfaction. If you have any
further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us on the above number.

I have a 711UK, it's ok as VCR's go, to be honest we don't use it that much! When I first set it up it controlled my Sky Digital box no problem, however after a few weeks it became intermitant. I was going to take it back, but I couldn't be bothered to go up into the loft to get the box as we use it so little.

Thanks for the info guys. I've just managed to order a new V752 from a company who has just received stock from Toshiba so I'll be receiving it in a few days. Once set up I'll post my opinions on it.

    Cheers

I just received my new V752 this morning and it is nearly identical looks wise as to the V711.

I ordered my 752 from Robinsons Audio and Visual their website being

    http://www.robinsonselectric.co.uk/toshiba.htm

Excellent service received and I would recommend them to anyone. I know that they just took delivery of 2 752's yesterday - obviously I got one so they should have 1 left!!. Hope this of help.

I just looked at the Toshiba web site and to me the 752 has a lower spec than the 711. The 752 has only 2 scart sockets whereas the 711 has 3! Can any one comment on this. Also, what is the best price for the 752. I have seen £120 on the web.

You're right. The 752 has got only 2 scart sockets. The best price I got was for £113.33 from the company I qouted above.

I would like to know what you think about the 752. I have a 711 at the moment, which I am happy with. To cut a long story short, I was sold the 711 as new by my dealer which I discovered was actually an ex-rental model. So I decided to have the 752 as a replacement. I am now not sure whether to send my 711 back and get the brand new 752.

Please let me know if you think the 752 is any good.

    Thanks

    Gary

I think it's a good unit. Picture quality is excellent and having only 2 scarts hasn't posed me any problems. Obviously I've only had it a few weeks but as yet I'm perfectly happy with it. Basicly, the 752 is exactly the same as a 711 spec wise (apart from scarts) but is now the current model with a few minor cosmetic changes.

If I were you I'd take yours back if you can get a 752 replacement free of charge.

If you have any specific questions about the 752 then just let me know.

Is there any real reson to have 3 scart. I understand you would want one to the TV and one from the STB. I don't have a DVD but I understand you can't record them so I'm struggling to work out why you would need a 3rd scart socket.
