Not sure if this works but got it from dvdrhelp.com

Region code hack posted by Stilgar, October 29 2004:
    Codefree via remote control:
    -open the tray
    -type 2403960
-press enter to cycle to region 9
    -close the tray
    -turn the player off
    -turn it back on

    Works also with RCE!

Thinking about one of these R2 players for my mum - does anyone know if this hack works?

Also, is this a permanent hack or does it have to be entered each time?

Just tried the handset code entry method to make the sd340e multiregion and it worked. Tried playing a region 2 disk and then a region 1. Both played. I didn't try the region 1 disk before (a mistake on my part), so can't be absolutely sure of the state of the sd340e before applying the code.

I also applied this hack to my 340e last night. Tried a Region 1 disk beforehand, came up with an invalid region message. After hacking, it worked fine.

Well, my DVD is still working (playing Region 2 discs) after applying the hack. But as I only have 1 Region 1 disk, which is now wrapped as a Christmas present, I can't yet confirm whether the ability to play Region 1 discs is still functional.

If no one else can confirm, I will post again after Christmas.

However as no-one appears to be saying it doesn't work, then I would infer it does.
