I've had a Toshiba SD2109 for what seems like forever (!), and am thinking it may be time to upgrade to a newer model (e.g. SD220), and keep the original as a second player (different room).

Can somebody tell me if there really is such an obvious improvement in pic quality from the old machine to the new one? I know the 2109 was very good for its time, but is the 220 even better?

    Thanks!
    Mark.

I've just done what you are planning.

2109 (£350 in 1999) is now in the bedroom and 220 (£135 in 2002) in the living room.

To answer your question, there is no obvious difference in picture quality.

I'm using a 32inch nx100 TV and my concern was that the 220 wouldn't be as good as my old 2109, but it is identical to my eyes, which is a good thing.

If your hoping for an improvment, I don't think you'll get it, but the new player also does VCD, SVCD and MP3, which the 2109 didn't.
