ok everyone not posted for a few days (been sulking coz i didnt have a delivery date for tv)
but just had phone call and its finally coming tomorrow
right question is ive got a granddaddy of a tosh 2109 dvd player (no laughing at the back) its an imported one so has the component outs as opposed to a scart socket to be honest the player has always been v/good in my opinon in terms of pq but if i did change the player would i notice a considerable improvement if say i changed to a sammy 945 or a panasonic s97
is there a great difference in pq using the hdmi over component feed and if so which player would you recommend
    cheers

    Hi Mort
I use a denon 2910 with a hdmi connector with the Tosh and the picture is better than prog scan with component outputs. I've seen it advertised on the web for about £490 for multi region. I bought it for £510 from PRC. Absolutely stunning pictures at 720 dpi.

I'm not laughing - I have a 3109, and although I have two other DVD players now, that one is still my first choice. If yours has component output, so much the better.

tnxs for that fleagledog is the denon worth the extra you reckon
obviously you have 1 and like it but is the extra 300 quid or so well worth it over say the sammy and panasonic

If I were you I would hold back for a DVD player that will play HD DVD's (when the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray battle is over). I doubt whether you will notice that much difference on normal DVD's fed via a digital input - a 9 GB DVD can't hold very much HD material - that's why HD-DVD and Blu-Ray were invented.

Couldn't tell you wether the denon is worth the extra. I have all denon kit and the 2910 plays dvd audio & sacd. If neither is important to you, I suspect that there is little if any difference between any DVD player that has an hdmi output.

i think i might end up doing just that nick
as for connecting equipment to the tosh tv i have my 2109 dvd and a hi def xbox i was going to run both these via component through yamaha 530 amp then use component out on amp to feed tv
my next question is would it be better to feed the dvd direct to the tv (its just i dont want to have to keep changing cables) but if i would lose a lot of pq going through amp first then id look at moving xbox to another room because ive primarily bought the toshiba to watch films
sorry if they seem lame questions but im a totally :suicide: when it comes to things like this
    thanks again

mort why not connect your dvd via HDMI, and your xbox hi-def through your amp into component - best compromise!

my dvd player only has component outs
didnt think i could get a cable "component to hdmi"
    component just carries picture yes?
hdmi carries sound and vision yes?
or am i totally off the mark :clown:
