I wonder how much the "Optional" Multi-Region will cost on top of the £209.99, perhaps this will make it £299;)

If it is that cheap that is excellent news, as long as its as good as the 510.

Keep us posted.

There is info on the Toshiba France web-site here (run thru' translator @ google)...

SD-520E

The MRP is 399 Euros which works out about £265, so its realistic that the on-line price could be 20% below this. Multi-region via firmware update usually adds about £10-20 doesn't it (e.g. richer sounds 220E)?

Looks like great value, but according to Timh's post re. Toshiba's PAL Prog plans, it doesn't sound like an upgrade will be available.:(

However it does have high resolution/ Hyper AntiAlias filter and despite my probs with the 220E, I'm tempted to swap my Pioneer 656 for one of these.

http://www.vjbailey.co.uk/dvd_section.pdf

Have a look at this it seems to be a scanned pdf of the 2002/2003
Toshiba catalogue.

scroll down a bit to find details of the 520.

I have emailed the company too see what price there going to be selling it for.

Thanks for that link.

the literature doesn't seem to mention prog scan on the 520, can anyone confirm that it is present? (or am I going blind)

cheers

Just got a reply from RGBdirect. They've just got some in and they're £ 220 with Multiregion.
Just going to place my order now.
It says they are progressive scan on rgb's website.
Just got off the phone should be here before Friday.
One other thing though on the phone they do charge £10 delivery.

Andy.

Mwillo,

Cheers for that - saves me another visit:) £299 seems a lot compared to RGB. Think I just need to wait a bit longer (perhaps for the Philips 963SA).

Does anyone know where I can get some fairly decent component leads from?
I want to see if progresive scan is as good as everyone says.
Thanks

Glad to be of help, let us know how you get on with the player, btw what tv are you connecting up to.

I am just waiting to hear back from rgb to see if they will pricematch with QED-UK.

If they do i will be ordering both the 520 and a Toshiba 36ZT29B.

I bought the Toshiba 32ZD26P about two weeks ago, have to say I'm very impressed with the quality of the picture and the tv as a whole.
Would have liked the 36" version but couldn't really push it to the extra cost.

I know what your saying, however i was quite lucky as the tv is getting bought for me by my dad as a wedding present. Plus QED are selling it for £1533.89 which helps.

Have you any idea what the 510 went for when that was first released. I still cant get my head around why the 520 is so cheap.

I'm not sure what the 510 went for when it first came out, but it's been around £300 while I've been thinking about getting one. I've seen some RRP in some mags of £399 but they're normally way out.
Got a very nice surprise when the 520 came out at that price, I was expecting it to be more than the 510.

Congrats on the wedding by the way.

I've just ordered my Toshiba 36ZT29B - and I'm considering placing an order for the 520 - why are people still going for the 510??

Can someone please explain to me what cables i need to buy?? - I'm not too clued up on this - I've got 2 satellites, the new tosh TV and dvd

If you go for the 520 I would reccomend conecting it with component cables then you'll get the advantage of progressive scan on your region 1 dvd's.
you should be able to connect both sat box via scart leads, but if I remember correctly only the first scart socket is RGB enabled.

Hope this helps a bit.
