I wonder how much the "Optional" Multi-Region will cost on top of the £209.99, perhaps this will make it £299;)

    cheers Steve

I've sent them an email earlier tonight asking that very thing, also if they have any in stock.

If it is that cheap that is excellent news, as long as its as good as the 510.

    Keep us posted.

There is info on the Toshiba France web-site here (run thru' translator @ google)...

    SD-520E

The MRP is 399 Euros which works out about £265, so its realistic that the on-line price could be 20% below this. Multi-region via firmware update usually adds about £10-20 doesn't it (e.g. richer sounds 220E)?

Looks like great value, but according to Timh's post re. Toshiba's PAL Prog plans, it doesn't sound like an upgrade will be available.:(

However it does have high resolution/ Hyper AntiAlias filter and despite my probs with the 220E, I'm tempted to swap my Pioneer 656 for one of these.

Have a look at this it seems to be a scanned pdf of the 2002/2003
    Toshiba catalogue.

scroll down a bit to find details of the 520.

I have emailed the company too see what price there going to be selling it for.

the literature doesn't seem to mention prog scan on the 520, can anyone confirm that it is present? (or am I going blind)

Just got a reply from RGBdirect. They've just got some in and they're £ 220 with Multiregion.
Just going to place my order now.
It says they are progressive scan on rgb's website.
Just got off the phone should be here before Friday.
One other thing though on the phone they do charge £10 delivery.

    Andy.

    Mwillo,

Cheers for that - saves me another visit:) £299 seems a lot compared to RGB. Think I just need to wait a bit longer (perhaps for the Philips 963SA).

Does anyone know where I can get some fairly decent component leads from?
I want to see if progresive scan is as good as everyone says.
    Thanks

Thanks for that i've gone for the Ixos 171AV.
I got them from www.homecinemaheaven.com for £29.95 though I only needed 2m or less so 5m would be a bit of a waste, saved £10 into the bargain.
    Thanks again for the info.

Glad to be of help, let us know how you get on with the player, btw what tv are you connecting up to.

I am just waiting to hear back from rgb to see if they will pricematch with QED-UK.

If they do i will be ordering both the 520 and a Toshiba 36ZT29B.

I bought the Toshiba 32ZD26P about two weeks ago, have to say I'm very impressed with the quality of the picture and the tv as a whole.
Would have liked the 36" version but couldn't really push it to the extra cost.

I know what your saying, however i was quite lucky as the tv is getting bought for me by my dad as a wedding present. Plus QED are selling it for £1533.89 which helps.

Have you any idea what the 510 went for when that was first released. I still cant get my head around why the 520 is so cheap.

I'm not sure what the 510 went for when it first came out, but it's been around £300 while I've been thinking about getting one. I've seen some RRP in some mags of £399 but they're normally way out.
Got a very nice surprise when the 520 came out at that price, I was expecting it to be more than the 510.

Congrats on the wedding by the way.

If you go for the 520 I would reccomend conecting it with component cables then you'll get the advantage of progressive scan on your region 1 dvd's.
you should be able to connect both sat box via scart leads, but if I remember correctly only the first scart socket is RGB enabled.

    Hope this helps a bit.

I've just got off the phone to RGBDirect and they say there is a problem with the multiregion 520 so they are'nt being shipped.
They're not sure when it will be sorted.
Not sure wether to wait or go for another PS capable player.

Just thought I'd update anyone who's interested.
I've been on the phone to RGBDirect for the fifth time since ordering after being asked to ring them again.
The players are in stock but at the moment there is no multiregion mod available, possibly one will arrive later this week.
This I don't mind but the fact I have been given the runaround about the order saying they had the multiregion player in stock last Wednesday waiting in all day Friday and it not turn up has irritated me a little.
I've cancelled my order and will start to look elsewhere for a player.
Probably just a one off and I hope anyone else who has dealings has better luck than I did.
Sorry for the rant, just had to let off steam abit.

I too would feel the same as you Andy, if there's one thing that makes me:mad: is sitting in all day for a delivery not to arrive! I've looked around for the last 2 weeks- know one has it in stock yet, perhaps in a week or two we'll all have one;)

    cheers Steve

I ordered one from RGB last Thursday and was told it would be delivered on Friday.

I then got a call on Friday afternoon saying they only had region 2 players.

When i asked how long it would be, i was told 2-3 weeks :(

I have decided to wait and see who else has stock.

Also, i see people are saying that the SD420 and 520 are based on LG players, is this really correct?

At least they had the decency to ring you. :)

I'd be interested to find out about them being based on the LG players, and if they're any good.

I'm thinking about a different player now though, I've been looking at the Harmon Kardon DV25, Marantz 4300 or even the Toshiba 510.
They seem Ok all of them have PS but info is a bit short on the ground.
