If I was to get a DVD burner for the PC, which one would be best to get?

I would want to play the 'burned' media on a Tosh SD510e, and am not sure what it is compatabile with (DVD+R, DVD-R etc).

    Cheers

Take a look a www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers and do a search for your player. It will tell you what media it will play.

With regards to purchasing a DVD burner for your PC then, apart from the compatibility figures for each format, there is very little difference between plus and minus formats. The former (plus) has a few technical advantages that debatably make it more reliable when burning, but most minus drives have had improvements made to the basic design which have equalled or (in Pioneer's case) improved upon them.

Given the cost of dual-format drives you might as well opt for one of those. Good models are available from Pioneer (106, A06):

    ...and Sony:

If there is any likelihood of you buying a set-top DVD recorder in the lifespan of the drive/computer you should seriously think about an all format drive such as:

...this will keep your options open when the time comes ;)

Cheers Rasczak, just what I needed.

According to the site, the 510e will play -R,-RW,+R,+RW, the whole lot (except RAM). Seems like I'll have a pretty good choice of burners then...
