hi all , i've been reading this forum for a while and it helped me decide on my latest purchase - a 46 inch tosh dlp - so thanks for all the advice you guys post . the set looks great but i have quite a loud "fan" noise which is a bit off-putting in quite moments of films . is this a general problem with the set or just mine ? also i get a ghosting effect with both DVD and SKY digital , its like a faint extra outline around people etc., any ideas how i could fix this ? i have a limit dvd player using a component lead to the tosh and scarts for the sky .

any advice would be apreciated :lease:

I dont get ghosting problems however the fan is certainly not whisper quiet, i agree thats its off putting sometimes. I have just had to live with it.

    Hi

I'm a new owner of the 52" variety. I can notice a slight sound but only if I make a point of listening for it, and then only when there is a quite section on the program.

Hi Les, can you describe the sound? I believe all colour wheels make a basic sound but am curious whether what you are hearing is a constant high pitched tone or something else?

I think we are referring to the fan for the bulb not the colour wheel. People that say it makes no noise must be deaf :O)

Not high pitched particularly, more a like a quiet ....ahmmm.... fan running :) Certainly doesn't annoy me - but then my old Sony LCD RP was a little louder.

It is an almost inaudable sound and many times quieter than any VCR motor!

Well this is def. an interesting one. My PJ makes quite a noise from the fan etc but its not high pitched and not a whine so I don't find it distracting.

I've done some further tests this weekend on my SP46 and found that with Sky Digital on EXT 1 (RGB) whilst the high pitched sound / resonating noise is there its much quieter than when I switch to EXT Component and then you hear the RPMs of the Colour spin up and this high pitched constant resonating noise. Switching back to EXT 1 sorta cures it, in that it goes down a bit.

Haven't had a chance to try it on the HDMI input yet as I don't have a DVD-HMDI cable but the whole thing is def very annoying.

Based on my description Samsung UK tech support said the unit is faulty and offered a repair, however given that its 2 days old I would think a replacement is in order.

    Any thoughts?

Anything up to a month is usual for a direct replacement. Insist on another set.
