just bought a tosh 220. The software version is 1.5.
I have a large collection of svcds which played pefectly on my denon 2800 mk1.

Bought the tosh as it said it would play svcds and it doesn't

I have tried 650mb discs 700 mb cdr and rws. Nothing works.
Is this a faulty player? Are Pioneer player any better with svcd?

REALLY need help on this 'cos I don't know what to swap it for (fab player with dvds!!!)

faulty player. Mines plays SVCD + VCD fine.

However, it has a problem with the audio hardware chip.

On SVCD's it is out of sync. you must press angle twice to get it back on line. And if you wish to convert SVCD to DVD-r, ie 6 epsiodes on one DVD-r, forget it. The tosh cant do it. no sound at all. Need to use my £70 asda cheapo to play those :-(

All in all, I wouldn't buy this player now if I knew then what I know now, purely on the VCD/SVCD to DVD-r issue.

hi poggs,

what dvd authoring software are you using?

when i have recorded tv programs with my pc i use ulead dvd authoring software, but the sound is recorded in mpeg so i have to switch my SD900E to pcm.

but if you use phono plugs(dvd to amp )you do not have to change the settings.

Picked up my Tosh yesterday with 1.5 firmware.

It played VCD and MP3 CDR perfectly from the start, but my SVCD's were seriously askew on the lip sink front. However after messing about with the audio and angle button (I couldn't quite remember what I had read here previously) I stumbled upon the angle twice feature and after a ten second pause with no sound, it now works like a dream.

Very impressed generally and as I have no access to DVD-R it plays everything I own.

Cheers

Ulead DVD workshop for converting SVCD's to DVD. Its the only one thats doesn't split and wrap the picture.

Aargh!!! What a tube I am. Of course

It now works fine if I set it to PCM.

I take it back. Its a totally brilliant player!
