Well, its been a weird old day in brum - one minute, I'm walking down the kings heath high street, next minute, the sky turns black, theres a creepy noise in the air like a locomotive and suddenly, I'm being pelted with branches, stones and debris, cars are being flattened by trees and thrown all over the place, shops and properties along the high street are smashed up and four minutes later theres calm but the scene is one of incredible destruction with injured people, damaged properties and emergency services everywhere - this was a 130mph tornado and it kinda makes you respect those 'monster' tornado's they have in the states!

    Hi,

I came out of Uni, at about 3pm, heard some thunder and was hoping I'd get to the bus station before it chucked it down. Took about 30 seconds, before I got completely drenched! Never seem so much rain come down so quickly, in such a short space of time.

Thankfully, I got home safely, and no damage to North Birmingham area - where I live.

I was in Redditch at the time (about 10 miles south of the area affected) and it went so dark, I had to put the lights on - I'm talking 9.00-10.00pm dark. Then it absolutely hammered down for 15 minutes. I'm disgusted to hear reports of looters raiding the affected homes...I guess the Police are too busy "revenue collecting" from speeding motorists...

The same tornado tracked east, and caused severe damage in a small part of north Peterborough too.

EG the damage is extensive, some people have lost homes and lively hoods kicking them while they are down is hardly sporting now is it? i dont know what part of the Uk you are from but i would say that you wouldn't have ripped it out of the people of Boscastle last year. do i hunt for piccies of thursday and just try and be a bit more chartiable.

if you not careful you may find out what brummies think of you. ;)

.....Its simply humour .... nothing more nothing less. It was not ment to be offencive ... and I am surprised that anyone would bother to take offence at it.
UK geographic banter to make light of a situation - when you consider the climatic events that hit other parts of the world .. Tsunnamis/Hurricanes etc where 100's if not thousands die, we don't half like to make a big deal about a small scale tornado in this country ( mainly because of the lack of experience of such events ) ... althought we do have 30 or so each year.

I simpathise with those people affected with property damage, and ofc the few people who were injured with broken bones - I'd hate to be in there position, but its not the end of the world - especially with the relative scale of things.

appolgies for anyone that did take offence
