    Hi Forum,

I heard the Avr300 with Spendor S5e + Sr5 in a dealer and I've had the 3805 at home for the weekend(using my heybrook cinema set up). Both seem to be much better in stereo than my current set up but not much improvement on dolby dig + dts than my current yamaha dsp 620.

All I can say about the Spendors was that my feet were tapping(a good sign in my book)

What would you suggests needing changing first, the amp or the speakers????

The amp 3805 pushes the arcam/spendor combo close without spending £2500 on new speakers. I am sure that the Arcam in my current set up would also improve stereo and only slightly improve home theatre.

How much of a difference would the speakers make?

I had previously heard the Denon with B&W 700 series and this was no match for the Arcam/Spendor combo in stereo.

    Your thoughts please.

Try and get the AVR300 for a home demo. The best way to tell IMHO. What about demo'ing the RXV2400 as well? It may not be as good in stereo as the AVR300 but should slaughter it for H/C.

Just get a new amp and keep your speakers setup. :smahsin:

It is an impossible choice. AVR300 + DV79 or AVR3805 + DVD2900, both are top knotch, the DVD2900 supports SACD but the DV79 has DVI out. The Denon should be easier to set-up.

Both set-ups have their pro's and cons, I suspect that they sound different, but which is better, I don't know but my gut feeling is the Arcam.

Doesn't the Denon 2900 have DVI out as well? Could have sworn it does.

Having heard both the AVR300 & the 3805, I can highly recommend you purchase the Rotel RSX-1056 :D. Seriously, it's at least worth an audition. For me, it sounded more involving than the Arcam in multichannel, and only a fraction worse in stereo. The Denon is great on features, but the sound wasn't transparent enough for my personal taste.

if it was my money i'd buy

    Denon 3805
Arcam A22 (currently 2nd hand on the forums).

the denon is better in HT and the A22 is better in stereo than the AVR300. Combining both together (with the A22 prcoessor mode) will give you better sounding HT as well.

the price of those 2 will be about the price of the AVR300 by itself and is much better value imho.

chalky the denon 3805 costs aprox £875 the arcam is £1300 to me thats £400 differance for starters.
why not dem the arcam at home as well , if sterio is main concern over av if your yam has preouts why not add an integrated amp , did you also try the 3805 with spendors ,that might make it easier to tell differances between your speakers and spendors
