Just saw this, whilst hunting for a discounted 5800 (no joy, yet):

    http://www.falconsat.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=&products_id=283

If this is fully DVB compliant, and has a YUV output, surely we should add it to the discussions held on component here:

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=310476&highlight=freeview+component

I would just like to reiterate before loads of ppl ask, that this is only really useful for ppl who's tellies don't have scart connections (ie projectors, or tellies from outside Europe). The difference between component and RGB is negligible, but if you don't have a scart input, component output freeview becomes a very valuable (and rare) commodity.

If I'm right about this model I think we should start a definitive thread on this topic and sticky it, but I may be in the minority on that one.

Just a note on the Toppy 5800. Certainly no discounted prices around not even on ebay but the cheapest I've seen is £229 for the 160GB and £258.90 delivered with a voucher for the 250Gb version.

Somewhat frustrating but i finally succumbed to buying a 250GB version.

Suspected as much. Didn't realise something could be fully dvb compliant without receiving dvb-t signals. I still think that other thread should be stickied, though. I also find it strange that there aren't more models with component out becoming available. I guess there'll be some with hdmi once we start seeing "future-proof" mpeg-4 decoding pvr's/stb's over the next year or so, but what with the results of the trial, manufacturers might not even bother.

Personyfied, could u please tell me where to find the toppy for £260 (PM me if you're not allowed to post retailers here), I'd rather have the 250gb one myself if its only £30 more.

Freeview with component out is also useful for people like me who use their receiver to switch between multiple YUV Comonent (YPbPr) sources. I don't know of any that will switch RGB.

    Use www.quidco.com for a 10%(£25.70) cashback on the 5800 from Firebox. A 250GB for ~£235.
