I have a Topfield and when I set it to record weekly it doesn't ! What happens is the timer sets to the right day and time and channel but changes the month and the year before the recording starts ( although checking a day before indicates the rscording will take place as planned ).In the most recent case it changed the month from June to Nov and the year from 2005 to 2034.
    Any help/advice appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi Pete

I believe you can stop this happening by going into system setup and changing auto time to manual. I think Topfield may be getting this sorted in the next firmware upgrade.
    Have you looked at this

Pete just been checking and switch to manual may not be the solution. Are you using any TAPS; especially Jags EPG.

    Richard

PS There are threads about this problem on link above but I could not find solution so far and have to go now.

    Pete

On the link above read Threads Bugs - Dissapearing recording events and Bugs - Weekday timers. You are not alone this is actually bug 46 on the Toppy bug list. (Lots of the other 45 have already been fixed so lets hope next firmware fixes this).
Seems setting to manual time could solve your problem for the time being; But it may cause other probs so do this at your own risk. :) . I understand the clock will then need checking about once a week. Loses a couple of mins a week apparently.
    Hope some of this helps.

    Thanks Richard
I got a reply from James at Turbosat which I think confirms what you say, so setting to manual is best option to try I think :

    Hello Peter

Ok this has been made aware to topfield and they are looking into this
and hopefully it will be put right in future updates for this model, I
am not really sure what the problem is and it seems that it does not
happen all the time ?????, but I am told that it is maybe to with the
date stamp from the provider and sometimes this information could be
corrupt and this is what can cause the problem, topfield will look into
the way that 5800t does it's checks as it seems to be getting confused
and then we end up this a date of Nov 2034 !!!!, I am not aware if any
other PVR models suffer the same problem.

Yes James is always very helpful; as are all at Turbosat.
I believe one theory is that this can be brought about by a weak signal when the Toppy receives its time stamp. Have you got a good signal; any way that you can improve it if not. Actually I suspect lots of PVR recording problems are poor signal related.

When in May did you get the Toppy; if it was start of May you may not have the latest firmware. Latest is TF-NPT 5.11.79 with last update May 11 2005. Check under IRD status in information menu

Hi - I have the March firmware version so I need to upgrade to the latest version, which I believe I can do via USB from the Toppy website, as I think this fixes a number of other bugs anyway. I think the signal is pretty good but I was having signal problems at the weekend certainly so this may have caused the problem.Have also set time to manual for the time being
Thanks for your help on this

    Hi Pete

Worth getting the may firmware if only because it gives you bookmarks. Hope recording becomes more reliable with the manual time. I think the Toppy is great but it does need a little work; both by users and by Topfield. Still the best Freeview PVR IMO.
Highly reccomend Gerti's Improbox Tap by the way. If you decide to start using 3rd party programmes. Well worth £10.50 for registering. Jags EPG is also great but I think it works best when time is auto so may be better to wait until Topfield firmware sorts the auto time problem (hopefully)

Only problem is Gerti updates it almost every day and I just dont have the time to keep up :)
I think he/she has produced four beta updates since I loaded it last week. Topfield should
1 put Gerti in charge of their software development. Apparently he/she is unemployed!
2 employ a German - English translator so I can work out exactlly how much Improbox can really do and how to do it.

Topfield have never done an OTA update; there is no immediate news that I know of about another over the net update; but I know there have been discussions between Nigel who runs the Toppy forum and Turbosat about what it should deal with; which includes all the usual suspects. Lost recordings and audio etc. Lets keep everything crossed for something soon. :)

Just to put my last post in context; lost recordings and audio are not problems I am actually having with my Toppy; mine is fine.

I hope the next update includes some if not all of the four most popular TAPS (functions but not necessarily same software to avoid copy write) as these should have been included in the first place!
