Hey I'm limited on time, and had enough of playing crappy games which make me waste 20-30 hours. Recently played Uncharted 3 and it was like a semi-decent movie... so in the time I played Uncharted 3, I could have watched 10 action films.

My top 10 which I feel are WORTH your time:

      Dark Souls
      Bloodborne
      Super Mario Galaxy
      Tomb Raider
      Fire Emblem Awakening + Conquest
Bioshock Infinite (whole series in general)
      Dragon Age Origins
      Trails in the Sky 1+2
      Batman Arkham Asylum
      Portal

I feel those titles were probably worth every single minute. I have other games in my mind which ended up taking the mick but had quality oozing from it.

Any suggestions for games which respect your time?

I don't mind pumping 100h into Dark Souls as its incredible in terms of engagement, storytelling and from a gameplay perspective. However when something like the Uncharted trilogy (where only number 2 was any good) require me to invest time into a paper thin storyline and interactive cut scenes, it makes me so annoyed in hindsight and I wish reviewers would judge games as GAMES first. I mean compare the jumping mechanics of these wannabe platformers to something tight and controlled as Mario.

Horses for courses I think, I loved the uncharted trilogy and those type of games. I play a wide variety of games as they all offer different experiences, it's difficult to compare watching a movie to playing a game, totally different past times

I found number 3 such a waste of time, I was constantly thinking "what does the developer want me to do to progress through this cut scene"

I found UC4 a bit underwhelming, having previously thoroughly enjoyed the series. 4 just seemed to be going through the motions and offered nothing fresh or interesting (10/10 for graphics mind you).

Back OT, just quickly off the top of my head, some of my all time favourite games from various platforms include:

      Knight Lore (Spectrum)
      Mario 64 (N64)
      Rome: Total War (PC)
      Stunt Car Racer (Amiga)
      Last of Us (PS3)
      Hitman Go (iPad)

      These come to mind:

PS3 - The Last Of Us
      PS3 - Heavy Rain
      PC - Rome Total War
      PS4 - Until Dawn
      PS4 VR - Resident Evil 7
      PC - Operation Flashpoint
      Amiga - F/A-18 Interceptor
      Spectrum - Highway Encounter
      Spectrum - Tau Ceti
      PC - Far Cry 3

I'd also add I love the Fallout series as well. Total War, Far Cry and Fallout I have spent a lot of time on.

Resident Evil (the original) nuff said
Silent Hill (the original) nuff said
Alan Wake (flashlight as a weapon, original)
Medal of Honour (the original) top soundtrack/score/background noises etc
      Oblivion - first MASSIVE game
Sniper Elite (the original) bleak, patience required if you're going proper stealth
Hogs of War - just loads of fun/funny voice acting
Gran Turismo (it might have been 2?) After the hours I spent on it could beat anybody:laugh:
GTA San Andreas - just brilliant nuff said
Fallout 3 - blown away and honestly didn't waste about a year of my life ;)

These are top 10 choices from relatively recently, so to speak, i.e from ps1era onwards.

Some of the sequels (where applicable) are great and absolutely loved (poured fudge knows how many hours into) them too and no doubt I'll remember more every day if i think back but from the point of top 10 these are definitely 'up theres'

Ooh, I think I will have a go at this! Based on systems I've played on and/or owned - likely going to be an RPG theme:

Crystal Warriors - Game Gear (think shining force but a bit more basic)
      Jet Force Gemini - N64
      Ocarina of Time - N64
Zero Escape Trilogy - DS/3DS (grouped, but simply bonkers)
      Team Fortress 2 - PC
Final Fantasy 7-9 - PS 1 (grouped, as I loved all of these)
      Deus Ex - PC
      Mario Kart - Wii
      Tony Hawks 2 - PS1
Pokémon - DS/3DS - (grouped and love the series, even if it's for kids)

Modest, but when I really think hard about it, these are games that had real definition when I was growing up and growing older.

Good call, FF7 tends to get the credit and I was guilty of this too in this thread, but all 7-9 were an absolute pleasure to play back in the day..

Some people couldn't cope with how different they were but I thought it was a great thing - all so different in style and substance - especially the mechanics around setting your party up.

Materia Vs junction Vs jobs. It was great! FF12 board seems good but only just started out.

The following are easy to get into and great fun:

      1. Speedball 2 (SMS)
      2. Super Mario Bros 3 (NES)
      3. Toe Jam & Earl (SMD)
      4. Golden Axe (SMD)
      5. Road Rash 2 (SMD)
      6. Duke Nukem 3D (PC)
      7. Simpsons (ARCADE/Emulator)

While these are quite expansive and more slow burners, but have amazing depth:

      8. Populous (SMS)
      9. Wonderboy III The Dragons Trap (SMS)
      10. Command & Conquer: Red Alert (PC)

Not my definitive top 10 or anything but all these games I love and have 1 thing in common, they are great classics!

Toe Jam & Earl really should have been remastered long before now for a modern console. It is perfect for the Switch...

I'm more a fan of franchises rather than individual games, and my PS3 days were all about the hack n' slash, just as my PS4 days are about the FPS. The list will reflect that but I simply can't list them best to best of the best. I love them all equally as much.

      1. God of War series
      2. Darksiders series
      3. Dante's Inferno
      4. Bayonetta
      5. Heavenly Sword (took my username from this game)
      6. Any Doom game
      7. Titanfall 2
      8. Any Street Fighter game
      9. Shadow Warrior reboot
      10. Hard Reset

      Honorable mentions:

      Devil May Cry series
      Killer Instinct series
      Metal Gear Rising: Revengance
      Quake series
      Gran Turismo series
      Shadow of the Colossus
      Tekken series
      Wipeout

      Head over Heels
      Bubble Bobble
      Doom
      Bioshock
      Goldeneye (multiplayer)
      Halo 3 (multiplayer)
      Mario Kart - Snes version
Resident Evil (all of them up to 4 especially the remake of the first one)
      Half Life
      Sensible World of Soccer
      Fallout 4

Spent an incredible amount of time on all of the above. Absolute classic games.

Resident Evil is probably my favourite gaming experience ever. The bit before you meet the giant snake still makes me think twice about opening the door. The bit with the Shark in the first game was incredible too.
