By The Evening Chronicle Film maker Quentin Tarantino is expected to choose Newcastle United to star in his next glamorous Hollywood blockbuster. The Toon are believed to be close to pipping rivals Man Utd and Chelsea to land a lead role in the exciting £15 million Goal! film which charts the story of a young Argentinian soccer superstar who comes to the Premiership. Soccer's governing body Fifa is expected to announce it is backing the movie which will feature a star studded cast from Hollywood and the football world. If Newcastle do win the race it would see Newcastle become a second home for some of the biggest names in Hollywood next year when shooting starts in January. And St James' Park and its fans would feature heavily in the film. Newcastle expect to hear in days if they have been selected for the film which could help the club break into the American market The exposure could result in a multi-million pound boost to the club's commercial activities. The city would also benefit from a financial windfall as the movie making world descends on Tyneside. If successful it would represent a sensational coup for United's management team and, in particular, chairman Freddy Shepherd and vice chairman Douglas Hall. The stunning re-development of St James' Park is believed to have helped clinch the deal as a top level delegation from Hollywood took in the home match against Manchester United. The party included Tarantino's Oscar-winning producer Lawrence Bender and the film's producer Mike Jefferies. He was given a tour by Mr Hall and the Liverpool-born film maker said he was confident the stadium would look fantastic in the movie. Another advantage enjoyed by the Toon is that Adidas makes Newcastle's kit and they are likely to be asked to make a big contribution to the costs of the film. Goal! is set to be a three-part series.
