Too widescreen or not

I'm looking at new laptops, not sure if widescreen is the way to go or just 'cooler'

Currently have an old 14" HP laptop which from memory runs 1024x68, been playing about with a Sony 15.x" BX VGN widescreen one and you don't actually gain much if anything and on quite a few websites end up with blank gaps either side so...

Aside from going nutty sizes like 17"+ do you see much beneft in going to a widescreen laptop and no it won't be used for any movies, they'll all be piped out to the TV.

widescreen is far better,I didnt even think you could still buy non widescreen laptops.

16:10 Widescreen often gives you less space than 4:3 at the same diagonal (on desktop monitors anyway, I assume the same holds for laptops).
