Having had a roller coaster ride of a week I dont know if this posting is either appropriate or relevant but maybe it will strike a chord with a few other members dragged into the swirling vortex of ....... the forum I would first like to point out that until a few days ago I had no affiliation whatsoever with AV Sales, but as per previous posts and reccommendations went with them and ordered a pw 6 (the deal with scart, bracket and 3 year warranty). Whilst prompt, helpful, courteous and generally going above and beyond the call of duty by tollerating my poor understanding of connections (although I am an exper now) AV Sales couldnt give me a free solution to the problem of needing to convert a combination of scart, component, s-video and xbox leads. Although I felt I had saved significantly by not opting for a 'vanilla' plasma I started to feel a little out of my depth - that's where it started really. Ironically I had bought a £50 wifi receiver running off svideo that needs a tv to control tracks and folders - not as easy as it sounds with a plasma display and limited connectivity. To make things worse I also spent more cash on an external hard drive to archive all my music and pics to then beam to the said wifi technology in my s****y new movie room (if you build it they will come bla bla bla ). In addition I didnt want my plasma to look like the jelly fish in the 3 g advert once it was mounted on the wall, so I needed to find a way of keeping cables from a number of other non component components out of sight Having scoured the forum, received advice (and in some cases even started to give it ) I started to learn that other things were not that simple - amps dont necessarily convert signals, lip synch is a problem, and to match a basic tv set up you need three tank sized boxes costing me a) more than I spent on my wife this xmas b) not as much as the divorce I am heading for .. Having set my heart on a denon amp I quickly realised that it would not meet my needs re video connections. As I could not afford the combined s video and comp board for the pw 6 (on top of everything else) I spent another 8 lost hours last night reading, scouring, getting advice (and yes giving a bit) and generally growing older before half settling on an amp I had never heard before. Credit again to most of the Av sales team all of whom at some point also tried to explain basic concepts and put me off panick buying every box available - just ... so .. I .. can .. get that ..little box to show the piccies ....must .. play ..music However my new flame (sorry amp) had gadgets galore, did the lip sink thingy (by now an absolutely indispensible feature seeing as I have necer watched a plasma), did lots of converty thingys (rude not to) and was very very big (by now the most important thing in the universe). It was also only £150 more than the denon and I was on a roll. (even though the comp/s video board was a lot less this amp looked really big and shiny). Next stop cables - I ordered from Hong Kong cos I had to have comp 5.1 from the xbox, cable universe (they look really heavy) and somewhere else because I could. Ive even ordered cables I dont need (for that drawer full of all the other lonely cables and old plugs). I still didnt heed the warning when my credit card company rang and asked if my card had been stolen - maybe I should have said yes. Too late now Im nearly there I thought. And when you work it out Ive actually saved .... because...erm well every item I bought was cheaper than someone else might have paid in Argos Anyway at least I had my amp that would solve all my problems and work perfectly with my 13.1 uber woofer mission speaker station and numerous gadgets. All was well in the world. Then the call came from AV Sales. "Apologies" they said (for a delay that would not be occurring) - "we can deliver your kit on Friday, been trying to ring you." "No problem - I got Alastair's pms and I appreciate the call and the service - again" (so glad I bought from them I thought getting excited now). "One other thing though - we are out of component boards" (Oh no I knew it) " But to save any delay, with our compliments we will send you a dual component, s-video and composite board instead for the same £49 squid you originally paid.........by the way what amp did you end up ordering?"
