Hi Peeps, Just wondering if it is okay to Name And Shame our Bad Experiences with Rogue Traders being anything from Builders, Plumbers, Car Mechanics etc. Since buying our house I have been ripped of loads (You live and you learn). But I feel that the law protects the rogue trader more than the customer!!  So Is it against the law to start a thread to share our experiences? I have a few succesfully won cases by Trading Standards in court but with some cases left makes you think to why do we bother having a Trading Standards at all?

I feel that people who have robbed others should be named and shamed. To stop others from wasting their hard earnt cash!! :lease:

I expect that the first rule of the AV Forums prevents you from naming and shaming.

In general I'm for naming & shaming but I think that in the first instance it's best to give a firm the benefit of the doubt as everyone has a bad day occasionally.

I think that we would rather you didn't as this is an AV forum and I'm sure that there are more appropriate places for you to join up to post your grievances.

But isn't always a bit suspicious when someone joins a forum just to say this kind of thing ?

Yeah, I suppose there is an element of truth in that. Then again if I had been ripped off I would probably register at a diy or similar forum and rant there :D Rather than a forum for AV

I did not just join to say this for a reason!! I was just thinking of a topic that probably everybody has had some experience in life. Certainly me in particular. But yep you are quite right this, clearly is an AV Forum. Sorry it is not the sort of Forum I was looking for.

I DID NOT INTENTIONALLY COME ON HERE TO CAUSE ANY ROWS HENCE (ATTACK THE SILLY GIRL THIS IS AN AVFORUM) I suppose aimed for men and gadgets. Not for me. Again I apologise to those (Sorry ONE person) who actually spoke to me kindly. Im out of here.
    GOOD RIDDUNS

Interestingly, I have seen similar posts on other forums (no AV related) recently it could be that there is an organisation probing forums in order to discredit a company or it could be simply as was said a newbie wanting to contribute something interesting in order to establish new friends. :) I do not see anything wrong with established members naming and shaming companies as long as its justifiable we all do it on occasion especially when seeking advice from one another on how to proceed with our problem. From our postings many members know what line of work were in so It would be pretty obvious if we started slating our competitors. :)

I don't think anyone is doubting the validity, it's just that on any forum you have to be very careful with subjects like this that you are actually getting geuine problems with traders :)

Plus of course any comments about the biggest rogue trader known to the forums would have to be deleted.

    Stick with it Beth.
AVForums have a huge membership and so inevitably there will be the occasional ruffled feathers, snotty post or over officious mod.
But the vast majority of members and staff are helpful and are good guys/gals.
