It's now 9pm and all those little unforseen DIY snags have cropped up, but at least most of it is done.
Just painting things like the radiator etc to do.
And of course wire it all up.
I'll order my screen on Monday. From what we've set up, a 67" (16:9) image is ideal, as the screen I'll go for is the DaLite Model B 50" x 67" (4:3).
At least I'll get rid of the sheet.:)

Well it's now late. Posted one last pic. I'm off to bed. Will do the rest in the morning.

    All that's needed is.....

buy and mount a screen (still searching for the joists)
    paint shelves
    paint radiator
    dye software rack covering curtain
    buy new curtains
    buy a rug
    re-install speakers and equipment
install a sky mouse for upstairs remote control
teach my Madrigal RC the new set up commands
    tweak all the settings
and on and on and on........

Stephen, with luck you may get a viewing next week.

Dont forget your blackout lining for your curtain's, the evening's are getting brighter.

How are you hanging your screen? I woudn't use the loop's on the casing, it will swing to much if you use hook's.

No idea yet. Will see when it arrives. But the swing problem did occur to me though.

Have you ordered your screen yet?
It has just been pointed out to me about adding (control screen return) for another £25, I wish I had done this it would be much easier to control when returning it into the case.
I had to cut into my coving to reach the joist.
Here's a pic of how I mounted it, it need's a little more cosmetic treatment to tidy it up.
It does not come with the bracket's or bolt's.

I'd reckon on ordering it in the morning. Almost done now for set up. I can't open/download the pdf file on installation at DaLite for the screen (corrupted), don't have that problem with any other pdf. So I'll chat with them and ask about a mounting kit etc. CSR is going to be on it thanks.
Thanks for the pic of your screen, it helps a lot.

I'm going for the 67" screen as it'll be min. size = best pic. at the throw distance I have. If I went for an 80" I'd have to go sit in my shed.:D

    Guy

    How big is your shed?
Could you not fit your kit in there ;)
The pdf file at da-lite isn't much use.
I dont suppose you can ask if they sell the CSR as a diy kit :(
Wow! dark walls, my Mrs wont let me paint the walls that dark :(

Purple walls! You should have seen the colour charts she brought home with her. To be blunt, it reminds me of the Bravo TV show called......HeadF**k!:D

    Timh,

I'm not 100% sure about the CSR for extra £25 but it is close to this figure. I couldn't fit a Model B pull down in my room as you know but the guy did show me a model b with CSR. You give the screen a little tug and it slowly winds up itself. No tugging and hoping you dont let go by accident with resultant screen embedded in ceiling scenario :D :D

I would imagine though that CSR is part of the internal workings of the screen and doubt there is an aftermarket CSR kit.

Well, finally it's all done (for now, cosmetic stuff ie, curtains can wait). Sheet in place and here's what I find.................

No pic. adjustments made at all on anything. I'll twiddle all the settings on PJ, DVD, Sky etc when my screen is in.

Screen size is 68" wide (16:9) at 9ft viewing distance.
So 70" x 70" Model B Square format screen is what I'll go for. Tim, I read you can, just confirming, but I'll ask Dircet2U anyway, you don't have to go the whole drop, ie, I can pull it down say 60" if I wanted to? So it'll be £106.40 + CSR = £132.40(?). Bargain.

Composite = ok - ish picture, fine to watch stuff on, ie sky. Yes there are flaws, but it's more than acceptable. Laserdisc looked ok too. Haven't tried Playstation.

S Video = Huge improvement, very good pic on DVD. Happy with that.

No screen door evident, not even looking for it. Fan noise is not noticeable. The lights can go up (dimmed type) to a fair level before the pic. really suffers. Colours, brightness etc all look fine. They can only improve with a proper screen.

Overall, viewing the PJ without critical eyes it's fine. Good pic that we'll enjoy for quite some time.

The only mild drawback/problem I have, is I'll have to tilt the pj down to drop the pic more to eye level, that will incur a keystone correction of -3 on the menu. More due to where I've mounted it than anything else.
(Note, for interest, from my pics that it's just above our heads in the seating position, and I'm saying it's quiet!!!!)

Considering the price of it, and what else is available, it does it's job well. Of course you can get a way, way, way better picture, but I could only spend £1500. I'm happy with it.

I have to say a big thanks to Gordon and co. of Stereo Stereo and all those that assisted with last year's event, else the wife would never have said to me....I want one of those.... and I wouldn't be so skint as I am today.:D

Screen arrived today aswell. Thank God.
Along with the cables it'll make a big difference.
Screen was £190 inlc. p&p and CSR. Ordered it at 9.15 am last Monday, here 10 days later, imported via Norwich airport as they clear customs quicker that way.
(Tim, that CSR is easy, and that's pulling it down and retracting just holding the screen.:D)
Will have that up by the weekend.
Added a couple of photos just for the hell of it.
    Nearly there.

Tim, I've posted in the DVD player section about prog scan PAL/NTSC, but my very first impression of it is Wow. Li On really nust be fussy, as on my crappy sheet the improvement is night and day.
I know where my bum will be parked this weekend!
Now, can I get Debbie Does Dallas R1?:D

    The Screen is up!:D

Had to use a batton as the joists were all over the place and I couldn't get the screen central otherwise.
Overall there is only a 'smidge' of a tilt on the left hand side, not even noticeable and it's a'smidge' too far to the right. Blamed that on the wife as she was directing the final central placement of the screen.

Apart from a bit of painting here and there, cosmetics like new curtains etc it's about done. The batton is over length by the way, just in case I go for a bigger screen in the future.:)

I'll spend Sunday sat on my arse with a lot of beer, my recliner and a potty sat infront of that new screen. ;)

    Guy

Tell the truth, your Dad fitted it right ;)
I have just watched U-571 region 1 in s-video and coudn't believe how good the picture quality was, there was obviously less video processing going on, have you compared r1 to r2 yet on the Panny?
Could you do me a favour and see what diameter the Van Damme componant cables are, I need to fit some twunking to take my new cables when they come on Wednesday, and I want to keep the twunking as small as possible.

    Thank's
