Personally I won't mourn the passing of our 1p and 2p coins but some people are moaning about the very idea. A woman at work was furious at the thought saying they are a vital part of british life, our ancient history and culture. I reminded her decimalization took place in 1971. So who's going to join her at the barricades?

I guess a minister must have got a couple of emails opposing the idea and the government got cold feet.

The same people moaned when the 1/2 penny went..... Well moaned for a few days.

I'm OK if they are removed.

What, no increments between 0 and 5. That means penny chews will jump in price to 5p each ;):D

I want £100 notes.

America's had $100 bills forever.

If we had a £100 note now, it would probably have less actual buying power value than the £50 note did when it was introduced.
It's weird how in the UK, if you get out a £50 note, people go weird and wonder what's going on.
I'm sure the same does not happen in the USA

They're just so big and rare - suspicious

Thats because the majority of folk are too poor to carry that denomination often
Just look how jealous people get and snidey towards those that look to have a few bob

I remember when I was in Canada about 20 years ago there was a drive to get rid of the tiny coins. Some shops had these penny dishes on the counter. If something cost x.99 you gave them a note and they put the penny change in the dish instead of giving it to you. Then if another customer bought items coming to x.01, you would give them a note and they would take a penny from the dish for the till. Wonder how they got on :)

I don't know about anyone else, but the two main things I buy for any reasonable amount of money constantly all throughout the year, £1000's is Weekly food shop and Petrol.

Neither of which I can do with modern methods as we are limited in most places to £30 still.

And generally £30 is not enough for a food shop or putting fuel in your car.
It's been £30 for ages, and I genuinely thought it would only be £30 for a few months, then ramp up to perhaps £50, then, let's say £100.
But no..... I've asked in various stores, and they all say, sorry £30 max.

Great for the modern trendies going to Starbucks and the local "we say you coming" organic taco bar and paying with your smartphone for say £10 a pop as a novelty

But what about REAL weekly spending?

Is Android Pay now over £30 without you entering data in?

I'll admit, I installed Android Pay the very 1st day it was out in the UK and entered one of my bank cards into it, and never used it!
The reason? It's just so quick and simple to use a credit card with chip and pin, and I have to be carry my credit card anyway, as I may wish to use a place where the phone won't work.

I look forward to the future, but right now, we're a long way from not needing to carry a wallet with cards and a bit of cash just in case.

There are more $100 bills circulating outside the US due to it being one of the most counterfeited notes worldwide. I haven't seen a £50 note since they were first introduced and forgot they exist. Maybe people react to a £50 note because they think it might not be real?

Already got £100 notes. Not seen one for a good while tho since was last at the casino.

Heard on radio day or so ago they ditched idea of getting rid if the 1 & 2p?

I only really use coins for parking and pay cash at the supermarket occasionally to get the change needed.

Likewise, but it's one of those things that still, all these years later, if you have no cash on you then you might get caught out.
Despite it being possible for decades now, we've still not come up with anything to replace cash totally.
You need a payment method that can be used to buy a car at a showroom, buy a old hammer at a car boot for 20p, pay next doors kids for washing your car etc etc.
Cash does all those things.
All other methods do some of them.
And everyone needs to be on the same system.

Yep - they have been since pretty much the start. Not totally sure what you mean by entering data though?

Personally I don't carry cash anymore, other than a pot of change in the car for the occasional parking meter.
