I've been reading up and I'm still at that stage where I'm scratching my head thinking should I or not

My current set up is a Pioneer 50" ( PDP508XD) with Arcam DV79 & Yamaha RX-V1400RDS and I've got to say I'm very pleased with the results I get..........but I'm considering moving up to BR - maybe one of the Pioneer players as I've got a pretty good idea the new Arcam will be way over my budget

So the question, should I go BR or not? as I'm buying DVDS right now and if I'm going to go BR mite as well do it sooner rather than later

I have a large collection of DVDS that needless to say with Arcam upscale play very well - would a BR player play standard DVDS just as well? as it seems from what I've been reading that may not be the case

If you had a budget of say £500 - £1000 what player would you go for? - The Pioneer models seem nice machines but as I don't live 247 home entertainment I'm just taking that view on a few things I've read

Any help would be very much appreciated

    Cheers

Oh to make things worse I live in Spain and the choice of HiFi isnt good

    Hi southonline. :)
All the BD players do a good enough job with DVD :smashin: not familiar with your Arcam though...sorry.
There's quite a lot of choice with BD players are you dead set on the Pioneer brand?
    Cheers.

    Cheers kingfats

Not dead set on the Pioneer brand just in Spain the choice isn't great and the largest retailer around here stocks all the range and as I have a Pioneer TV and pleased with it thought that would be a good move.

I'm really open to options as I said I don't live & sleep HiFi just want to make sure I buy a good machine as the Arcam has been very good and still is, just I buy a lot of DVDS and as I know at some stage I will want to move to BR I mite as well do it sooner rather later

So- if you had a budget of £500-£1000 what model would you go for?

    also why not Pioneer??

Apparently the new Sony ES player is excellent and might be just about within budget.

problem will be finding it in Spain - even the Sony Spain website doesn't have details of it - buying quality HiFi here is a pain!!

I went from an Arcam FMJ DV29 to my Pioneer BDP-LX71, and have to say that, although the Arcam had the edge with DVD playback, it was not by a huge amount. The layer change on the Pioneer is also about the same as Arcam (ie not brilliant).

If anything, the biggest difference is with CD playback, which is obviously an Arcam forte. The Pioneer is one of the best in this respect, but no BDP I have seen (heard) can hold a light to the Arcam when it comes to CD replay. Obviously not an issue if you have a dedicated CD player?!

The S350/BD35/51 will all be well under under your £500 starting point,i guess the next stepup from them will be the Denon 2500,is that available where you are?
