I don't know if its a known fact but I've found out that this plays CD-RW discs.

Has someone tested if there is a CD-R that works also?

Anyway I'm happy now that I can write my own CD's and hear them on my HT system.

Yep, and all brands of CDRW appear to work. This applies to all the x25 and x35 players.

    aydin,
that's exactly what I said, but it's still a superb machine. But not playing CD-R's completely baffles me.
I was very happy I found out that it does play CD-RW though.
CW, thanks for the tip about Princo, though I'm not sure I can find Princo cds here in greece. Since you've found one that works I'm going to buy every brand i can find and see what happens. I'll let you all know my results.
marc

The 735 cannot play CD-R because it has a single laser only as opposed to e.g. the 7700 or players from the competition.

CD-RW are closer to normal CD discs than CD-R in terms of the reflective layer, hence CD-RW media will work, and if you are lucky you may even find some CD-R's, too.

For CDR's, look for gold or very light blue disks that are highly reflective. Most of these should work with the Sony. Dark blue will not.

Thanks Steve for the reply, I thought the thread was dead...

I've tried a few brands and no-branded CDR's but with no luck yet, including a few brands of audio CDRs. You've given me a glimmer of hope, I'll try the gold & light blue ones.

I've found CD-RW's are quite cheap so I'm using them for now, I have a very large Hard disk (100GB) on my MAC and I'm saving all my cd's for when I want to write them. Its quite handy really.

No worries, I'm not talking from experience. I have a 735 myself and found that dark blue CDR's do not work. Many people have told me to get light blue or gold but I have yet to look seriously. If I find a brand that work I'll let you know. If you have any luck, could you do the same? I can't seem to find Princo on the maplin site so I may give them a ring tomorrow.

    HI Steve,
did you have any luck with Maplin? I too can't find the cds on their site. If you found them, I'll give them a call to ask if they can post them to me in Greece.

Because your on the subject of Sony DVD players. I have a 735 and have found a disc that it has problems with.

    R2 White me cant jump.

In one scene the lip sync is completely off. Tried it on a Sony NS400 (Same) then I tried it on a GRUNDIG and it worked....

Anyone found CD-r's that work yet

Just to let you know that Princo discs do not work on the Sony DVP-S735D. I heard the rumour and quickly bought some. Maplins were selling packs of 50 for £15.99 which was a real bargain. I have since discovered that these discs do not work.

I haven't tried the gold discs though.
