Ok, I have decided to go down the Dual Processor upgrade route for my AV32.

It’s gonna be a couple of weeks before the Service Dept for Tag upgrades is open. So as I have a bit of time to ponder – should I get the 5.1 By-pass fitted as well.

If I stay at my current abode I will never be able to fit 7 speakers in my room. Does the 5.1 by-pass have any bearing on a 7.1 set up?

    What exactly does it do?
Does the 5.1Bp improve the sound of my CD’s (2Channel)?
    Does it improve DVD’s?

Not getting it all with save me a few bob. So should I bother?

    Cheers

Of course, just look what I did (see another thread from earlier today)
If you do not do it it's gonna cost you a fortune, 700 pounds with shipping!
    Don't let it slip.

I have bypass fitted on my SP model, and I do use it to connect my Arcam CD23T through to give the clearest signal path.

I have just bought a DP model, and intend to use a pair of the standard analogue inputs to take advantage of the TMREQ feature with music.

I have had both SACD and DVDA capability in the past and, whilst very good, just didn't supply enough material to make it worthwhile.

Bottom line, if you know you will need it, get it now. If its going to be a redundant feature, then why pay for it?

    Thanks for the replys.

I don't really know whether I need it or not  .
Until I have tried it I can't say.

Anyhow, still pondering. I have asked Tag for a price for
A: The 5.1Bp upgrade with the DP.
B: A new AV32 DP with all the bells and whistles.

    Awaiting reply.

Here goes a quick attempt (as I need to run to a meetintg):

    1. Bypass has no bearing on 5.1 vs 7.1. Bypass simply provides the capability to play DVD-A and SACD in 5.1+ channels.

    2. Bypass will not improve the sound of your CDs as CDs can, without bypass, be played either through a digital connection or an anologue connection. My prefrence, as I have a DVD32R, is via a digital connection using the T2L SyncLink.

    3. Bypass has no impact on DVD's. See 1. above -- as it, once again, simply provides the capability to listen to DVD-A and SACD without having to go through an additional analogue-->digital-->analogue conversion.

    Hope that helps.

    Hiya.
For what its worth, we decided to have a new 7.1 DP......(oh and a fully loaded AV192R......).
The bypass is exactly that......no processing.......it can be configured as 3 stereo inputs though.......the 7.1 gets you the action switches.......As I've said before at best you will never need them at worst you will wish you had them.....Its only money mate ;)

    Hi,
I upgraded to DP without the bypass, having been advised that the inabilility to TMREQ the bypass meant it was little more than an expensive volume control for DVDA or SACD and the sound would be inferior to TMREQ playback. Since I don't have the bypass, I can't comment but I do sometimes wish I had it so I could tack on a universal player and decide for myself!
    Cheers,
