    Hi All,,
I've been a Tivo user for a few years now but have decided to look at Sky+ purely for the HD coming in 2006.

Just invested in a Panasonic Plasma HD ready and after calling Sky tonight, purchased at a price of 359 Pounds a Sky+ 160 box.

    Question.
Im being told by Sky that this box is future proof and it is capable of making use of HD when the service is started in 2006. I can't find anywhere to back up these claims.. so is this true?? will this box display HD in 2006 (obviously after a hefty subscription increase I feel)..

Also.. whats the best way to connect this unit to my screen? I also have a DVD player and Bose sound system...

    Any input would be welcome..
    Roy

No. The Sky HD box isn't available yet, you've just bought the 160GB versions of the standard definition Sky+

I specifically asked if this box was HD ready and the lady went away and came back and confirmed it was.... Not a happy guy.. as I said, I already own Tivo and see no need to change to Sky+ unless it has the ability to offer HD.

First call in the morning will be to Sky to cancel the order.. do you see any potential problems??

Under the Distance Selling regulations you are entitled to cancel and get an instant refund within 7 days of placing the order. If Sky don't refund your card promptly, contact your local Trading Standards.

After speaking to someone at Sky, I managed to get out of them its January. (What about Christmas ?! Christmas films in HD would have been nice)

Always helps if you keep asking the same question to someone who doesnt quite kow what they're talking about;)

Sky have always said that HD would start in 2006. Any rumours that it would be earlier were only wishful thinking.

Well I'm assuming it was a good source, it was Sky afterall (or is that contradiction in terms?!?!?)

That what they told me, so we can only wish!

That would be the price SKY are selling it to existing customers along with an installation charge. The SKY+160 based on it's spec is simply not worth that and especially with the ongoing issues with DD audio.

If you have the space/money I would keep your TiVo for a month or two alongside your new Sky HD when it arrives.
That way you can decided if you can live without TiVo as a lot of functionality is likely to be missing from the Sky HD box.
I intend to keep TiVo to record stuff that doesn't require HighDef -stuff for SWMBO, news, radio, the Apprentice, DIY and property shows etc...

The Hi-Def will just be used for sports and movies.

Maybe she thought "HD" meant Hard Disk! - I have it on good authority that not only will new receivers/Sky Plus boxes be required but most users upgrading will also need a new type of multiple output LNB if they want all the features planned for the Sky High Definition.
