    Hi All,

I was going to get the REGION 2 four disc set of TITANIC, but atleast one website has said that the REGION 1 three disc set offers a better picture. Looking at screen caps from that review I agree. Now I want the REGION 1 for picture and the REGION 2 for extras.

What would be the best way to make an "ULTIMATE" set of TITANIC ?

And has anyone else reviewed both Region sets and compared them ?

    Thanks,

    M.J.

i'd hold off, if you head over to the digital bits, theres apparently a small mastering Issue with the region 1 Disk?? wether it will exist in the region 2 i dont know.

Whilst I have seen one review with screen caps from both regions, you have to ask what conditions were used between the two screen captures, was the software used properly calibrated, was the screen used properly calibrated and is your monitor properly calibrated? This is a subject the review team and myself are discussing as we should be doing comparison reviews, but we want to make sure we do things as properly as possible, so you the reader know that we have tried to elimanate as many problems as possible.
Going back to that review, there was very little in the way of picture difference, infact it looked like a set up issue, not an issue with the transfers, again going back to my point above.

This happens in one frame and as stated if you cant see it first time you won't see it, IYWTK its a small encoding problem which has a number of pixels which have not rendered properly.

The guys at Davisdvd.com reckons that his Region 1 and Region 4 don't have the mastering error. It may be a batch thing ?

I too noticed reletively little between the transfers. The one giveaway was that Kate Winslet's beauty spot (or mole) is clearer on the Region 1. Small difference I agree, but I love this film and want the best version. I am also sensitive to the PAL speed up and LOVE James Horner's score.

What I might do... is pick up the 3 disc Region 1, and then buy the HMV 5 disc set (includes "Ghosts of the Abyss") and then use the best packaging to house the Region 1 film discs and the third disc, and then also keep the Region 2 fourth disc and the "Ghost of the Abyss" disc). Then flog the spare discs to someone who just wants the film. What do you think?

Phil, I'd be REALLY interested on your comparison review as well. Do you know when it will be up? I agree with your comments about the conditions that these comparison reviews are done under but I am very keen to get this release as I am a big fan of the movie (and I'm an impatient excited git).

    Cheers.

Is this exclusive to Virgin? I hadn't heard about it until I saw it in the shops.

I bought it yesterday and used a full coupon book I had, so got €15 off the price, so €20 total, cheaper than the 4 disk on the web (supposed to only get one stamp on the coupon book with each €15 spent, I bought a CD there last week for €17, but the guy went crazy and stamped it 7 times!).

I havent checked any of the discs yet but I heard the glitch is only for a frame and without knowing the exact time to check on the PAL release I doubt I would ever find it.

Have you watched your 5 disc set yet? I watched mine last night.

Firstly, I didn't see the glitch and was really looking! Secondly, the picture is fantastic and so is the sound. The packaging is also excellent. One thing about the sound is that the dialogue in the centre channel seems to be mixed quite low in the overall DTS mix. This means that you turn it up to hear what people are saying and then have your head blown off and your speakers blown up when they suddenly go to the boiler room or another loud scene.

    Did you notice this?

I havent even put any of the discs in my player yet, got Red Dwarf Series 7 through yesterday so that has been on non-stop.

Also, I only have a basic sound system, no 5.1 or DTS for me.

Can someone give me a breakdown of what is on the 4 discs on the PAL R2 release and hopefully give me some idea of what is missing on the NTSC R1 or R3 3 disc release?

    Thanks,

    Rob.

i bought the virgin 5 disc set. it was good value for money. although the fact that the extra scenes are on another disc..and not in the movie, was a bit dissapointing, and that alternative ending....[which is not in the movie either] was awfull :rotfl: the picture quality is much better than region 1 and region 2 original releases.
