Had a quick look, and for a first attempt it looks pretty damned good. It has the familiar feel that is welcome and I hope it's a success.

    Good job!

Wow, didn't know there are a few kinds of diet.

I don't know much bout forums but they look clean and nice layout. Easy on the eyes for me.

    Best of luck!

Looks fab, I wish it every success. To help I've even signed up and posted. It's a 50/50 male - female membership at the moment but I suspect that may change in future :)

I see it's on Xenforo so that will help Stuart's assertion that 'one day all forums will look this way'

I've only known diet as just diet so it's very surprising  Agree with you though. Somehow I wish that I'm a 'diet conscious' person in a way but noooo. Food always gets the better of me haha

Alcohol calories don't count ... that's been demonstrated scientifically.

However when the alcohol brings on the munchies ... that does count.

Right ... I'm off to make a sandwich before bed :suicide:

The forum looks good - but what makes a forum is members not the forum technology. I am a member of a couple of other forums in niche subjects that are really successful but the forum technology is awful and not great to use. But that doesn't matter because that is where the user base is.

So her forum looks fine - looks straight-forward to use and is well categorised.

What she needs to do, is understand the competition - is she taking on giants. For example, if she was trying to start up a UK AV technology forum I would tell her not to expect much because AVF has it covered. I don't know about health sites so she needs to do that research.

A more specific comment - the site takes you straight to a forum - it needs to go to a hone page with colour, pictures, articles, reviews, videos etc. that has a link to the forum for when you want to get more involved. As it is I'm just faced with a forum and not entirely sure what the aim or purpose of the site is.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

If this is an opening attempt then it is very impressive indeed. The majority of the fundamentals seem to be covered however at some point I think the site will need a dedicated homepage even if it's just stating who you are and what you can hope to achieve from using the site. It would certainly help attracting further members.

A great effort as it doesn't seem there needs to be any major overhauls, just further refinement.

Thanks for the helpful advice , it really is appreciated :)

The home page will appear within the next week or so apparently.

I have to say hats off to her she has worked really hard on this and is a massive learning curve for her coming from an accounts/admin background

Lovely. A forum about dieting and the first thing that caught my eye was the line "this website uses cookies"

Yup, so do a lot of the posters.

But I may well sneak in under an assumed name, as dieting is something I do at the moment. Perhaps I'll disguise myself as JeanMarctheexpat. Oh la la

There's huge competition out there for a forum on dieting....it's going to be a long slog but good luck to her...all forums start with no users and no posts. Even this one did at one stage.

The main thing is, does she know what she's talking about? it's pretty easy to set up forum software but to get and keep users, the information needs to be there and it needs to be good.

well, it takes time and dedication to build up a reputation... plus I assume she's experienced in this line of work..?

as a personal preference - I don't believe in 'diets' - but rather a healthy lifestyle and exercise and eating a balanced diet, this imo is far more important than a specific diet plan (that you can't normally sustain long term)... that said - there are loads of people out there who do diet for one reason or another, and it's a case of targeting the right type of person.

edit - she also needs to spend time on it - creating lots posts and engaging people in conversation...and spam other places - try mumsnet etc...
