Hi all I'm pretty new to this forum but been thinking about a flat screen for a while now, and having some monies left over from my house move, things are looking good.
Anyways you all rav about Pannys and Pioneers. What about the samsung screens? I ony ask because Tiny (the computer people) have bought a load of 42" samsungs and rebranded them as there own, they recon there a £2400 Screen with lots of extra's ie stand, remote, scrat board, tunrerboard, leads and a free internet TV box. There selling them at half price nearly; £1299 for the first 1500 orders this includes VAT and delivery. will try and find out the spec on the screen...

I always say "if it sounds too good to be true, then chances are, it probably is". I've never seen a good review for a Samsung by the way.

some info from tiny about there plasma screens...

The plasma panels are made by samsung and LG or Matsu****a (panny parent) the motherboards are made in far east (big place) also they say reason they are cheap coz they cut middle man out

display 1000:1 contrast and 16.7 million colours and a 160 degree view angle. ok

pixel resolution 853 x 480 but can handle 1280x1024 also this has latest samsung generation panel.....all for £1299.99 pounds without the middle man.

plus stand and speakers also a free net box wow....

what do you think? p.s be gentle

Well they're not made by Panasonic! 1000:1 is old tech even by samsung standards. The word the server asterixes over in Panny's parent company springs to my mind. £1300 down the toilet.

After visiting Tiny's Web site I think that it should be compulsory for buyers to become members of AV FORUMS.
How many people will think that they have found the bargain of the century and rush in and buy at those prices?
I bless the day I found this little corner of the internet.
Even now I haven't been able to make up my mind which Plasma I shall eventually buy, but at least I do know that with the help of people like Joe, MAW and hornydragon that my final descision will not be dictated by inferior, bargain type products.

Look geeza, if your only gonna take the word of this forum alone you can expect and deserve everything you get. This is not the be all and end all to AV.

There are lots of very helpful and knowledgeable people here but don't let that sway you from just looking at the Tiny plasma deal.
No it may not be the the best plasma available or even in the top 10 but you just might be happy with the results for a while or longer. Take a trip into Currys or Comets and look at the 42" Samsung on different sources and decide for yourself. The Panny is a very good model and have seen it kicking around for under £1600 now and with Pioneers new efforts due shortly even the 434 and 504 are dropping down.

    Good luck :)

One thing that doesn't get much mention is the extras you may have to buy... the Panny is a superb panel, but there is a good chance of having to spend £200 more than the bargain prices, to have the necessary inputs for your other equipment, and 'mount' it - even if you want to put it on top of a table!

So you really do need to think about what you need - a standard analog tuner? A digital terrestrial tuner? SCART sockets? Component inputs? Wall mount or desktop installation?

I'm not really familiar with the Tiny panel, so I don't know what it offers. But for a little over £1500 you can get the LG 42PX11 - which has an analog tuner, pretty much all the inputs you could want, built-in speakers, and a desktop stand. It is a very good panel, and superb value for what it offers.

OK, just checked Tiny.com - the claims of 'latest generation' seem out of place, looking at the contrast and brightness specs. The current panels - Samsung included - perform much better.

If you look at the Tiny panel and looks OK to you, then fine. I wouldn't say take viewing current Samsungs in another store as an indication, and personally, I wouldn't look at anything less than the LG 42PX11. And there a few options for a little more money if you prefer a more established brand, and the opinions and experiences of a significant number of people.

Well thanks for all your opinions, seems the tiny deal though good for the money is not for me. would much rather spend 2k on a decent picture than 1300 on old technology. I mean what are TV's all about :smashin:

    OK. Got a reply:

In regards to your video board..
The video board that is FOC on the Panasonic TH42PWD6 is a MAN P/N TY42TM6YB. This enables the following ports...

    Component
    Composite
    S-Video
    RGB

This takes up 2 slots out of 3.

Well, as the majority of forum members are all one cable short of a full componant connection (me included) - I thought sod you all and bought the Tiny 42" Plasma

I have to wait six weeks for delivery

Er... thats about it, theres nothing else to report... I guess I've saved about £300 on buying from a shop which will be wiped out when Aldi start knocking out large LCD/plasmas for about £999.95 at Christmas.

Well heck, I bought one of the early 100 Htz Sony Vegas which cost over £1100 new five years ago so size for size the Tiny offer suits me.

    Will post results soon....

    Tara for now

P.S: I actually don't know what I was hoping for.
Maybe a card with all the necessary inputs for my DVD player, SKY, PS2 and Xbox. :D

ddlooping may i suggest that if you were to buy from a proffesional AV dealer not an IT reseller they would be able to furnish you with the correct boards when you buy the plasma, also mounts etc........
Trust me buying boards seperatly is a chore and you will pay Full RRP..................

That is a rather disappointing situation - IMHO, the ability to add and swap boards on the Panasonic is a pretty damn big selling point.

We make no money on boards, they are a service we provide. Why should I provide a service to someone who's gone off to some internet t****r and paid 2 1/2p for a screen then expect me to do all the work. You guys need to get a grip of this, us retailers are not in business to rip folks off, but do need to make a living. So yes you'll pay full price for a board if not bought with a screen.
And BTW if you have the complete board and are still unable to connect your stuff you should pay more attention to what is posted. It's actually cheaper to get the right amplifier than waste money on loads of boards, and have a system so complex your wife won't understand to boot. A JS box for sky is the only add on you need. As I've said before, 3 out of 4 of my installs have no video boards. Others have them just to get PinP for fun, or the 7 series boards for more serious stuff, like wireless connection.
