Hi, first of all hello and congrats on a great forum, recomended by a mate. Lots of good info.

I have had a quick browse and it seems the company "Tiny" is sort of a horrible word on here :( But considering im a noob to all this I need your guys wisdom.

Im specifically looking at the Takami 610 Plasma TV Package here

I have limited knowledge but looking at spec at a glance seems pretty good:

Samsung Panel 10,000:1, 150nit, 853 x 480 (can handle 1280 x 1024 inputs) and has lots of features/connections. Plus im pretty sure that samsung are a good manufacturer of panels.

Also included is Wall mount/dvdrw/5.1 surround/freeview/internet box and stand. Plus the magic 12mth Intrest Free

I saw the 3000:1 panel in store and the picture wasnt the best with pixelating and slight tearing. So I would assume the 10,000:1 panel should be awesome in comparison.

Ive asked the sales man for more info on panel like model etc.... But what do you guys think, Im interested in it for the full cinema package, good price and interest free..........

Would appreciate all your constructive and informative comments :lease:

    Thanks in advance

    Mike

If you have read the Tiny threads and are still interested then you are beyond hope.

Panasonic PWD6 for £999 pisses all over it (do a search).
But you don't get a DVD recorder, stand, or 5.1 surround.
    Ask yourself why????
    Probably the definitive answer, IMO.
    Don't touch it.
And there is a MASSIVE thread on Tinys.
Try a search in the forum :smashin:

fair enough. I did read the thread but it was on the lesser 3000:1 and 1000:1 units, I figured the 10,000:1 must be decent and that its a samsung panel as its the takamai range which most of the other range are not samsung like the focus range etc

But can you trust Tiny giving the extra spec you want???

From the thread, it's dubious (although to be fair, I haven't read all the thread)

Don't touch Tiny, IMO, but you might get people saying otherwise (I doubt it, myself)

    Good Luck :smashin:

You can get a G7 panasonic for £1k these days. And on the subject of contrast ratios, there is no standard, you can clai m whatever the hell you like on the subject. The only way to tell is to see the thing, and know whether the blacks are black and the whites are white, not to mention that the picture does not fall apart in the middle. If it carried a Samsung badge, you could be reasonably sure of the last part, but though the latest models are better, all, and I mean ALL, previous samsung plasmas have been the sort of thing I try not to tread in on council estate streets in respect of blacks, whites and solarisation. Not much hope for the panel with dodgy cheap electronics added then.

Sorry, I meant places like Mosside and the north Peckham estate. I live opposite a 'council estate' and they are fine.

i got to about page 15 of 96 and my eyes started burning. My head is telling me to run from it like the wind, but cant get out of my head that the 10,000:1 150nit version may be a goodun as people only seemed to rate the 3000:1 unit

I wish that was true, but sadly its not.
Even if the tiny plasma was half decent, i still wont buy another off them because of the hassle when something goes wrong. Customer service=non existent

I assume no one has had experience with the 10,000:1 panel?? Im assuming its because of the bad rep with the lowwer/lesser panels. Im a string believer that you cant judge every product from a brand just cause of a few bad ones, While the others were not so good and customer service was not a1, I cant help but think there is the possibility that this panel could be good and for me very affordable/reasonable with the ability to get a top spec panel for my budget.

But I do appreciate your vies on customer service. However at the same time if the panel worked fine and all was good you shouldnt need to use their customer services.

Until I read otherwise on the 10,000:1 panel Im not going to take the bad press as solid as it was aimed at a specific panel, however it is hard to ignore. I was all set to buy one but now im not so sure

ignore the constrast ratios, they really mean next to nothing. it's like compare megahertz from Athlon to Intel.

Man, what does it take tyo convince you that you can do so much better for less money and have better comeback into the bargain. The specs are a complete phoney, measured true contrast on the 10000:1 screens from Samsung and LG are likely on past record to be no more than about 500:1. Panasonic's 4000:1 measures around 550-600:1, Badger's Hitachi around 260:1. The numbers mean nothing, you've GOT to see one run before parting with your hard earned. Don't say we didn't warn you.

I agree with those figures, in my estimation
Blacks are not brill on the Hitachi 7200.
But if you can live with that (I can) then you're OK.
I haven't seen the Tiny in question, but can say contrast has nothing to do with it ( ).
Picture quality is the be all and end all, IMO.
    SEE ONE WORKING, full stop.

Badger, not knocking the Hitachi over this. Just pointing out the difference in actual over claimed contrast, it's universal. Panasonic are king of the blacks, even though both LG and samsung both claim more contrast. The PX11 is about 10% better than the Hitachi, though it claims 5000:1. Yours claims about 1500 doesn't it?

Shock_xe it could be the best picture in the world but tinys record on for the worst customer support in the country would not convince me to give them a penny, they cant deliver collect install or even support the product charge you for a warranty that covers your basic legal rights only and break ever regulation and flout the LAW as far as possible!!!

    Waddya want me to think?

Not unwilling just nieve to a certain extent. I am new to this and have not said otherwise, Ive read the promo material and spec and on paper sounds the biz, so I originally had no reason to doubt it. Not once have I argued, just said as i see it.... i.e. spec = x vs views = crap which tbh doesnt sound right when 'apperently' its high spec, but now its beeen explained it makes sense.

On a constructive note, been looking into it more and most of the plasma's are just panels, I didnt realise this before... I assumed they were all built in like normal Tv's, Again me being nieve/new to this....

Any advice on easy soloutions would be appreciated as I want something to buy and stick on the wall which works with everything I got

OK then what do you want to use that you've already got? Then we could help you towards the most appropriate solution. Some of those panel only ones can be made to be a cracking TV for astonishingly little dosh these days.

I realise you weren't knocking it mate, no worries :smashin:

I was just saying that whatever screen you buy, you need to see it first.
Shock_xe may be happy when he sees it, although I doubt it.

And yes 1500:1 is claimed for the 7200, I think.

    Shock_xe,

I would suggest you spend as much money as you can on the screen and get the other gear as and when. That way, you get better quality and extend the enjoyment

    Thanks guys,

Only thing i plan on keeping is ps2 and sky box, for the mean time I want a TV, Wall bracket and DVDRW. Suppose 5.1 could wait. Also started looking at LCD's with this HDTV larke that seems to be raving on....

    Would consider anything 32"-42"
