I'm trying to find out which USB pen drive I can use to record HD and SD programmes with? Theres nothing in the online manual and varying answers online so I'm hoping someone here has an answer. I've got an ext 1tb hard drive but don't want to reformat it for the TV in case it screws up the content already on it. Is there a cheap USB pen drive up to the job? I believe the read speed needs to be 10mbps minimum to work?
So how much memory is recommended and what speed?
    thanks

Any USB memory stick will be fine from 4gB upwards.
So would any powered hard drive, though of course it would lose anything previously recorded on it.

I should have said that I was writing from my own experience of a Samsung TV.
It works perfectly with a very old IDE drive enclosure and with a couple of cheap USB sticks.

I found a little programme called Samsung-USB-Adjuster which helped me when my Samsung TV didn't like a couple of old hard drives in caddys.:smashin:

Sandisk Cruzer Edge 16gb USB pen drive works fine!:)

Oddly they don't quote or guarantee read/write speeds for the Sandisk Cruzer Edge flash drives but they do work well for recording multi SD & single recording of high bit rate HD... - perhaps up to 20Mb/s (tested in TM5402s)

Patriot Blade USB Flash drives do quote read/write 'up to' speeds & seem fast for small data saves but generally similar for recording / playback up to c. 26Mb/s (tested in TM5402s)

Sandisk Ultra & extreme do quote up to numbers for r/w speeds

but most USB flash drives don't quote read/write speeds & many cheap ones can work OK-ish for data saving etc.. but can be useless for pvr use.

HDDs should be faster - typical examples = 50-60Mb/s but you can get faster in both hdds & flash drives - read / write speed is important for pvr use... avoid cheap usb flash drives off ebay
