Well, it's been around 5 years with my IN82, now at 2400 hours and hasn't skipped a beat and still works wonderfully......however, I am building another new dedicated theatre in a coupe, of months when me move to the States, so I can't take my current set up and have an excuse to buy a new upgraded set up. The room will be light controlled so, 18'3 x 17', with the first row of seating around 10ft back. I will be ceiling mounting the PJ.
As for budget, I'm looking to spend up to £3k or there about. In general the prices seem to be cheaper in the US so will likely be able to get around £4k worth over there......would love to hear suggestions, pros and cons and general feedback

    Thanks

The Sony HW55 will be great for you - I have the predecessor, the HW50, and am extremely happy with it. I'd love a DLP for the crosstalk-free gaming and movies but get terrible rainbows so I can't watch them - crosstalk is something you'll need to think about if you care about 3D so it's worth a demo. Apparently the Epsons are great too but I love the dust free nature of the Sony (which would also apply to the JVCs to be fair).

I've been offered these grade A Sony projectors at very good prices

    VW95ES, $2,899
    HW50ES, $2,499
    VW90ES, $2,399

....obviously, the VW models are older but have 2.35:1 capability which would allow me to have the wider screen.

Some others that have been thrown on that hat are Panny PT-AE8000, JVC X35, Epson 9200 ....I haven't been able to demo any of them at all, which makes AVF's input that more important.

I would be looking at getting a JVC X500 period. They are £5k here so if you can get an X500 for around $4500-5000 that is just £2700-3000.

This pj is the best you can get unless you go up to an X700 or Sony 500ES which are a fair bit more.

It has the best contrast/black levels of any pj and also has e-shift 3 which takes a 1080p signal and upscales via e-shift to make it look as near as dammit a 4k picture.

Obviously you can spend less and a JVC X35/Sony HW55 would be my choice if wanting to spend less than your £3k original budget. However the X500 is easily worth the extra IMV.

Fantastic value:thumbsup: at that money I would go for it over an X35/HW55 any day of the week.

You have some future proofing in that it will take a 4k input when they are available, but even 1080p looks superb with e-shift.

As long as you are using in a dedicated room with full light control this is THE pj to get at this sort of price.

One thing to check is does that come with the 3D emitter & glasses, it's still a great price though as remember over here the X500 is £4999.

Just a proviso when we talk of future proofing, whilst it will tale a 4k input, this is likely to only be 4k content from a PC, and not 4k Blu-Ray whenever that appears, due to the HDMI standard that uses & the related HDCP

Fair enough, I can only imagine 4k content will take quite a whole yet.....I will ask the question about the emitter and glasses

Shame this won't fit in cabin baggage. At only £2600 it would be worth the risk!
