    Hi guys

I no longer have or play any CD's and just stream my music from Tidal Hi Res. With that in mind I have been looking at either the Cambridge Audio CXN or the Bluesound Node 2.

After much searching and deliberating I am about to pull the trigger and buy a Bluesound Node 2 (although the CXN looks stunning and would be a fine pair with my amp)

I have decided on the Node due to the fact that it is MQA enabled and compatible with Tidal. Now this is where I am slightly confused. I am guessing that the DAC in my CXA80 will be better than the Node DAC and that is fine because I can bypass the Node's and use my preferred DAC. With regard to the MQA, is it the Nodes DAC that is MQA enabled. If it is and I bypass it I am presuming that I no longer be able to stream Tidal MQA.

    Have I got that right?

    Thanks in advance
    Craig

Actually, it doesn't matter. I think I have just found the answer.

I am right. If the external DAC is not MQA enabled it will not stream at that level.

The Node DAC is still pretty good though. I used a PowerNode running a pair of £1600 Ophidian floorstanders and there was a nice open soundstage, plenty of detail, no harshness or anything.

I've decided on the Node 2. Just trying to find a retailer who can get one out to me pronto. Being the impatient soul that I am I can't wait for the usual 3 to 5 day delivery. I'd like it for this weekend !

Shouldn't be 3-5 days if the unit is in stock - should be a day or two.

Do you mean direct from Bluesound?

I just meant from dealers that might have stock in ready to go - I don't know what Bluesound's direct delivery times are like.

I've just tried 3 different retailers and when I added it to the basket they said 3 - 5 days.

Maybe I need a little more patience!!

    That's the "Amazon effect" :)
People expect things 'now' these days, and that's something that is hurting small businesses. It's fine when ordering from multi-million/billion pound corporations, but when dealing with smaller companies, shipping costs, particularly insurance, so not too many will use 24 hour delivery. On top of that, it depends if retailers keep stock - if not, it would be 1-3 days into the retailer, then a day or two out to the customer. Not all companies can keep every single product they do in stock in all colour options, particularly when they supposedly deal with 100 or more brands.

I don't use Amazon and I wholly support buying from small businesses, preferably local to me. I run a small business so understand the issues that the 'big boys' can cause.

I will admit that my patience is rather slim when I want something but I wouldn't expect the retailers to take a loss on me. What I was looking for was the option to pay more for a faster delivery.

Guess I'll have to be more patient. They say good things come to those who wait. :)

Next day delivery is nice, but I'm getting a bit bored with it! Maybe I'm just not in as much of a rush as I used to be - if I order something, I know I'm going to get it, and most of the time, it doesn't matter whether it's tomorrow or next week.
I think the big corporation/next day delivery thing is making shopping a little impersonal too. I know some may like that, but I like to see and touch what I'm going to buy. CDs or Blurays I don't care, I know what I'm getting, but certain items are just not an internet option for me, particularly clothes!

I commend your values - this industry needs more people like yourself! :)

I do, yes. My consideration for multi-room and streaming products are based not only on a good, stable app, but also sound quality.

    I'm David :)

At this early stage of my relatively new business, I'm not really in a position to keep back up stock at the moment - I'd rather spend that tied up money in providing a larger range of quality products until I'm happy with what I have - then I can look at keeping stock of the more popular items. Most UK held products are 1-2 days into me anyway, so normally no real need to keep stock, unless it's something like Amphion, which comes direct from Norway, which takes about a week.

So, I had a chat with David from The Little Audio Company and he was very helpful and gave some sound advice (excuse the pun). Calm mannered and not pushy at all. Ticked the boxes that need ticking and the Node 2 will be with me on Friday. I will definitely be using him again.

Thanks @RRRuss for the heads up and thanks David for your help and service.

How much were they out of interest? My Bronze’s need to go, I’ve never been happy with them

David used to have some amazing Kef Ref 104/2’s, I used to love how they sounded.

What do you have now David?

I paid £799 (and free next day postage) which I thought was a damn good deal considering that they were £1250. I wanted the walnut colour and apparently RS only had 2 pairs left in the UK so I snapped a pair up quickly from Nottingham.

That budget that I was talking to you about last week has gone right out of the window. New amp last week and speakers and streamer this week....reckon I've got some explaining to do to the wife :)

True but the sound will be a huge distance away from what you’re getting from that Denon AVR you had!

I’ve got the SR7011 which is supposed to be decent with music but it just isn’t so think I’ll likely go down a similar path as you and punctilio have.

    Definitely, I can't wait.

To soften the blow I called my wife today and told her that she could go curtain shopping this weekend and also get herself the new washing machine that she has been pestering me about. Her response was..."what have you gone and bought now" :):):)

the 104/2s were my first experience of KEF Reference back in the early 90s, and I've never forgotten that day as it was the start of my Reference journey!
I now have KEF Blades, but they're up for sale to help with the company. I originally bought them as part of a very long term plan - that didn't really go to plan, and now I'm in a very different situation than I would ever have expected even 2 years ago!
