    Is there any real advantage to buying THX certified speakers?

    If you power them with a THX amp and THX processor, then yes there is some 'debatable' benefit to be had from them. Without the additional post processing, you're buying a very nice well made set of speakers that have design compromises built into them to make them perform like a THX cinema.

    I think its of benifit if all your kit is THX otherwise you wont have the right balance

    What exactly does THX stand for - there seems to be varying descriptions on the net :confused:.

    Oh alright, some people claim it's Tom Holman's eXperiment, pretty poor compared to the above.

    THX 1138 was also the name of Lucas' first feature lengthe film.
