Just wondering, on THX discs that are EX encoded, should I use THX EX or THX Ultra2 Cinema?
I did try Ultra2 on a few EX discs and thought it was a more 3 dimensional.
Anybody have a view on this?

THX Ultra 2 is designed for 6/7.1 speaker set-ups when playing a 5.1 disc (ultra 2 cinema)
You should still use THX EX for EX encoded discs.

    BUT,
It's a pain to switch between Ex and Ultra2 with non-flagged discs, and some people have said they prefer even Ex encoded material in Ultra2.

    Big can o'worms now opened.:D

I guess it's no different to applying pro-logic to bog standard stereo, which i always used to do to the TV because i couldn't be arsed to change it over, and it didn't sound too bad. But i have to confess to being a bit more anal with DD EX and do tend to only switch it on when the disc is EX encoded.

    tyefi ...

I find I hate (most) stereo stuff decoded by pro-logic ... but used to not mind about EX decoding being applied to 5.1 stuff.

With the Rotel 1066 it has it's own way of using all 7 channels with only 5.1 material which is quite good too.

Vikki- I never liked PL applied to music, and thinking more about it a lot of the shows i watched were probably in PL...but i guess i just got used to it being on with all stereo TV. Now with PL2 things are a lot easier.

In my ignorance i have so far only been able to "entertain" Logic7, Trifield and TMS for 2 channel music (but still i feel prefer good old 2 channel unadulterated stereo 90% of the time)
PL or PL2 music just seems so heavy handed to me.
On 99.9% of DD tracks i will apply THX as default.
THX EX only on applicable soundtracks
I quite like THX2 but it is "a fix" rather than a "real m'coy" IMHO and although it is very good at opening up that rear soundfield i would kid myself that i would prefer to hear 5.1 as 5.1 if that was how it was intended.
Rant over - i will climb back under my ignorance rock now.

    Steve
