I don't really know much about this. But, region 1's are NTSC, which mean it has
480 lines of horizontal resolution, whereas region 2, which are PAL have 576.
So, theoretically region 2 should be better, because of the better resolution.
However, maybe more importantly is the care & skill taken over transfer, and perhaps in the US they are doing a better job? I don't know, but I would be interested to know if the US transfers are generally better.

Can anyone else with more knowledge comment on this?

    T. :)

It seems there must be a reason for this?

Released quicker, that is the main reason, see your other post asking the same thing.

I don't like judder on pans, and US material will give it when pal material will not on film based material anyway.
With region 1 stuff you need to get 60 frames a second from the original 24 of the film, do the maths and see it is not easy, with pal they just speed it up a touch to get 25 frames a second, and then show each twice, far easier, but as someone else pointed out, in your other thread, if you have perfect pitch you may find this very annoying.

You also tend to find US discs have more edge enhancement which I hate too, not sure why, maybe becuase there is 20% more vertical resolution on Pal they don't feel the need to try and sharpen the image up? (which is a good thing).
