Just a quick question, currently what region 2 dvds out in the shops have a THX optimisation mode on them. I'm after a decent dvd to watch as well as use to get the best from my t.v and dvd player.
I know T2 does and belive fight club does too.

Are all the optomisation modes the same or do they have slightly different settings to one-another.
SW Phantom Menace ain't too bad so at the moment i'll probably be looking at that or fight club.
    Cheers

The theory behind 'Optimode' or 'Optimizer' is that each disc (film) has a basic set-up test pattern to get the best set-up for each film on an individual basis.

In other words, they could (should?) well produce different results.

Get Avia and do the job properly :)

    One word of warning,

if you have a 6.1 EX setup or plan to use the optimization to get "reference" levels, make sure you use a disc with the newer version (THX Optimizer and not Optimode )

The newer one has correct pink noise levels for the rear EX surrounds (the few Optimode titles with EX test tones were incorrect - T2 and Castaway come to mind).

And the overall volumes were 4dB or 6dB off normal reference levels. (I can't actually set reference levels in my setup, pink noise at 75dB just hurts too much!)

    Thanks Lads,
I ended up getting SW TPM, not the best of films but i'll end up getting the set eventually. It took me a while to find the THX menu. Once i started I found a whole load of convergence errors and geometry problems.
I've fiddled with the service menu for the last 2 hours and managed to fix the geometry ones and a little converge.
    Ta everyone
