I'm new to all this modern TV technology and have been browsing over this forum. I note mention of setting up TVs using AVIA and THX. Can someone explain to me what these are and how they can benefit me?

    Many thanks

You use Avia to setup your display (whatever it is- Plasma, CRT rear projection, CRT front projection, CRT direct view, LCD screen, LCD rear projection, LCD front projection)- sharpness, contrast, tint, colour, geometry, convergence, horizontal/vertical placement, overscanning, red push, etc (and loads more)

Avia also has sound tests (tone, sweep, pink noise, phase etc etc)

Avia is a specialist disk you buy for setting up home theatre. THX is a free setup utility supplied on some DVD's, such as Star Wars.
